Bamboo as construction material

 Many people think that bamboo is a weak, perishable, and "for poor people''

material, but there are many buildings made with bamboo which have lasted about

100 years in good condition and they are wonderful. Despite concrete or other

materials arebeing resistant, these aren't as light and flexible as bamboo. For

example, using bamboo is possible to build buildings with big spaces without using

many columns to support the structure since It's not very heavy. Another example is

that , the bamboo, can resist earthquakes and have no serious consequences that

could harm the build. Even though bamboo is a natural material that can be

damaged, there are different construction techniques that allow to keep the quality of

it. One technique is the preservation and drying of the bamboo, that avoids the entry

of insects and harms fast. Another technique is a good foundation, which avoids an

excessive water absorption from ground (Jorge A. Morán, Ubidia. (2009). Construir

vernacule constructions are made with bamboo and can be somewhat ugly because

of the bad design, but there are many modern and old buildings too that are

highlighted due to the use of bamboo. For example, it can be used in the structure

and to leave in sight, creating a great natural space which gives beauty to the place

where it is implanted. Also bamboo and a good design can create wonderful facades

that help to the climate regulation and give a better aspect to the

building/construction. In conclusion, the constructions with bamboo generate nice

spaces and beautiful sights; it is a, It's strong structures and transcendstranscend for

a long time without losing itstheir natural beauty with proper and corresponding

maintenance.
