Part A: Classroom Organization & Layout

2. 2. The classroom design that I chose to create meets the criteria of the five key points.
The first key point is to use a room arrangement consistent with your instructional goals
and activities. I chose to keep the students at four different tables and to keep the tables
together in groups of two. The reason I did this was so that the students are able to work
with partners or groups. I also chose to include a separate table for small group work.
This table is for when the teacher wants to work with a group of students separately. The
second point is to keep high-traffic areas free of congestion. I tried my best to keep the
desks equally spaced from each other and enough room in the front and back of the
classroom so that the students have room to move around. The third key point is to be
sure students can be seen easily by the teacher. I put the teacher’s desk in the front corner
of the room so that the teacher will be able to see all of the students at their desks and if
they chose to work anywhere else in the room. The fourth key point is to keep frequently
used teaching materials and student supplies readily accessible. I chose to keep the
materials that the student will need on the counterspace on one side of the room, so it was
out of the way and it is in reach for the students. The fifth and final key point is to be
certain that students can easily see whole-class presentations and displays. I put the
student desks in the middle of the classroom so that they can see all of the information
around the room.

Part B: Developing Classroom Rules and High Expectations


1. I will develop my classroom rules by going into the activity with certain ideas but then I
would ask the class what rules they want for their own classroom. I want the students to
feel in charge of the rules and have ownership of what they think is right. I would keep
the conversation going by adding in my own thoughts and ideas.

2. Some rules that I will have for my classroom are to keep their eyes watching, mouth
quiet, hands and feet to themselves, ears listening, and to raise their hand when they have
something to say. I will include more rules than this, but I want my students to be a part
of the creating process. I will explain the importance of these rules by asking the students
how they like to be treated and how they think they should treat each other. I will also say
how I like to be treated and get their respect their way. I will post the rules on different
posters around the room. Another idea that I might do is to have the class at the end of the
year write a letter to the next class saying what their favorite rule was and advice for the
next class.
3. My personal oath is I will always be there for my students when they need me. I will go
above and beyond to my best abilities to make sure that they are taken care of mentally
and physically.
