In this UBEA1013 Economics assignment report, our group which consist of 5

members are going to explain about the GDP, population, inflation rate and employment rate
between two countries which are Somalia and Australia.
The first country that we did is Somalia. Somalia is a country in Africa which is bordered by
Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Gulf of Yemen, and the Indian Ocean. Horn of Africa in Somalia
has a strategic location that along southern approaches to the Bab el-Mandeb and routes
through the Red Sea and Suez Canal. Mogadishu is the capital of Somalia and it is located
just north of the Equator on the Indian Ocean. The geography of Somalia consists of semi-
desert, mountains, and highlands. The government system is a federated parliamentary
republic; the chief of state is the federal president, or sheikh, and the prime minister is the
head of government. Somalia operates a traditional economic system, with most of its
population engaged in subsistence livestock and agriculture. Somalia is also a member of the
League of Arab States (Arab League). (globalEDGE, n.d.)

Somalia is a country of geographic extremes. The climate there is mainly dry and
hot, with landscapes of thorn bush savanna and semi-desert, and the inhabitants of Somalia
have developed equally demanding economic survival strategies. With the exception of the
mountainous coastal areas in the north and several distinct river valleys, much of the country
is very flat, with few natural barriers restricting the movement of nomads and their livestock.
Somalis are clans-based Muslims and about three-fifths pursue a mobile lifestyle, nomadic or
agro-pastoral. (Ioan & Jörg, 2019)
The second country is Australia. Australia is the sixth biggest country on Earth and
it has the smallest continent. It lies between the Pacific and Indian Ocean in the Southern
Hemisphere that is about 3,000 km from the mainland of Asia. The capital of Australia,
Canberra is located in the southeast between the larger and more important economic and
cultural centres of Sydney and Melbourne.

The terrain in Australia is mostly covered with low plateau in deserts. Australia is

governed by a federal parliamentary democracy and a commonwealth realm. The chief of

state is the queen and the head of government is the prime minister as same as Somalia.

Australia is having a hybrid economic system with multiple private freedoms combined with

centralized economic planning and government regulations. Australia is one of the member

of Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

(globalEDGE, n.d.).

From tropical rain forests in the north to cool and temperate climates in the south and
southeast, the world finds climate on this continent. Australia was once a British colony and
people were settled there after it was discovered in 1788. In the past few decades, people from
all over the world have come to Australia. But today, it has become a multicultural society. The
continent now has become one of the richest countries in the world. It produces wool and meat
on the one hand, and gold, bauxite and other minerals on the other. Australians are having a
high standard of living for life. (EnglishOnline, n.d.)
