1. Task 1: Reporting past events.

Special event of my life “Humanitarian Demining”

In life there are special moments, but there are moments that never are forgotten, I’m a military
and I have had bad moments and good moment during my military life, I am going to tell about a
special moment that marked my life, in my military life I always have worked with explosives “I
love it” from 2004 to 2015 I have taken many
courses about specialty explosives. I studied
about anti-explosives canines, I studied
about improvised explosive devices and I´ve
worked from almost 10 years in military
operations in the jungle, where I located and
destroyed mines.

I helped many soldiers to avoid stepping on the mines, my labor was very special and important
in this moment, a life full of experiences about the explosives, to help to my coworkers and save
your lives this was everything. But my preparation and my experiences was projected towards
humanitarian demining a world totally different. Here I started my special moment in my life,
almost 10 years of the military life were dedicated to the military operations in the jungle,
experiences and results that determined and projected me toward humanitarian demining.

In the Year 2015 I started my training about humanitarian

demining the change was total, and I wouldn’t wear my green
uniform anymore. I had to dress a blue and beige uniform, I
remember that moment I felt very different with respect to my
new form to dress (new uniforms) but I liked my new
projection,

a new experience was waiting for me accompanied of a

dangerous training, I studied for 6 months with organization
of American states as a humanitarian demining leader and I
obtained the first place, I was decorated with the medal
“Torre de Castilla” and candidate to continue studying in the country of Brazil, an achievement

that I celebrated and shared with my family, in this moment my mission in the National Army
changed military operations ended for me.

I started my new mission through humanitarian demining; new uniforms, new tasks and the
most important my mission was directed to others people “the community in general ”but I before
help to the community, I was selected as a humanitarian demining instructor in international
humanitarian demining center , almost
one year I teach each the procedures what
a deminer should learn to have success in
the operations humanitarian demining, I
remember that during this year I trained
almost 200 soldiers, when would change
your style military too.

I decided to continue training then I

was selected as a candidate to
humanitarian demining supervisor course but I remember that the workout was very strong and
fussy so much so that I don´t reach the first place in the course but the preparation and experiences
full all my expectative.

After receiving a lot training and share my knowledge, I was ready to start my practice in the
operational part, the training and preparation had finished for
me, I remember that I was selected to work in the
department of Huila in the supervisor position, I had a great
responsibility but I was calm because I had had a high
degree of training.

I remember that my first group to work was formed by

20 men, and our main mission was investigate about the
affectation of the improvised explosive devices in some of
the areas affected by mines where the war had already
ended, the investigate part wasn´t so easy, I remember that
the community didn’t want to provide information about the
location of mined areas. The community was afraid and we

didn’t inspire confidence and our work was getting complications however we apply other
strategies to inspire confidence in the community “health days”, our strategy was perfect and the
investigative obtained excellent results so we obtained all the necessary information to continue
with our work.

After a complete information about the mined areas. We had what plan a series of activities
like; how many deminers do we need for each area? Which areas were more dangerous than others?
Means transport among others, an unforgettable experience which full all expectative.

I worked in the humanitarian

demining for 4 years, it was a special
moment for me because I trained
other soldiers, I studied other topic
different of the military life, and
most important I located and
destroyed mines in areas very
dangerous in benefic of the
community It is gratifying to know
that people who live in the
countryside can return to cultivate their land, and can walk along roads and paths without any fear.
Our motto "save lives". My story finished in the humanitarian demining when I am called to do an
ascent course my new grade and my expectative were different “ Military operations waiting for
me again.
