Narrative report on PEER SUPPORT

SLAC Session

“People don’t always need advice. Sometimes all they really need is a hand to
hold, an ear to listen, and heart to understand them.”
Maria Sophia
A saying that reminds everyone of us that we need someone to be in our side no matter
how hard life is. Last, January 27, 2020 Cagangohan National High School teachers
conducted a SLAC session, and one of the topic was Peer Support Program.

The SLAC sessions for the Peer Support were mind opening and lifted awareness
among the teachers. We were able to understand our role as teachers to our students
as considered as Peer facilitators. New information and understanding which are very
meaningful and importantl to us.

It started with a prayer conducted by the Nathaniel Dagooc, ESP Coordinator and
followed by a zumba dance exercise led by Mary Grace Pobocan MAPEH Coordinator.
A picture presentation of numerous people who help each other was flashed on the
screen and teachers were able to share their ideas about the picture.
A questions was flashed on the screen and I asked random teachers to answer the
question, “What is Peer Support?” The answer was very ideal and meaningful because
it came from a stored knowledge and experiences. Then I flashed another set of
pictures and asked their ideas and opinion to open the topic. It showed that my
colleague were very knowledgeable on the topic. They were very active to learn new
ideas and provide real life examples to be a Peer Support Facilitator. I discussed how a
peer support program, aims, why each school needed to have a peer support group,
who is considered as a peer support facilitator., what is the function of peer support and
what is the important role of Peer support not only for the students life but also to the
teachers life and there mental health.

The school Peer Support Coordinator/Guidance Mrs. Cristie Villar shared other
information to us for a better understanding of the role of a peer support group. Since
CNHS established a peer support group for the students.
After the session, teachers were able to speak up their reflection on the topic and help
them to understand the students and their fellow teachers. The session was indeed very
meaningful and eye opening for them.
