COURSE INFORMATION
1. Course Number : MATH 141a
2. Course Name :Analytic Geometry
3. Course Description :This course provides students with experience on solving problems that
require the integration of algebra and geometric concepts. The use of graphing calculator is highly
encouraged.
4. Pre-requisite : Math 7a
5. Co-requisite : Math 13
6. Credit : 3.0 units
7. Class schedule : 5 hours per week

First Exam Part 1: Chapter 1 Multiple Choice You are expected to solve the fundamental concepts in Cartesian coordinate

(70% of the exam) division of line segment, inclination and slope of a line , parallel and perpendicular
lines. This includes your experiences upon learning Math 7A (Algebra) and Math
13(Plane Geometry) through the use of Cartesian plane that basically it can help
you to specify the different analytic approach in mathematics.You will have a short
quiz every end of the lesson, a group activity in the middle of the week and a long
quiz every Friday. Assessment for this period of the course is a periodical
examination.
Second Part 2: Chapter 2-3 Multiple Choice You are expected to solve operations in algebraic approach in relation to the
Exam Questions coordinate system involving distances of two points, slope of lines, equations of
(50% of the exam) lines. This includes topics in part of the book Math 7A (Algebra) to develop your
skills in computing and solving mathematical equation.You will have a short quiz
every end of the lesson, a group activity in the middle of the week and a long quiz
every Friday. Assessment for this period of the course is a periodical examination.
Third Exam Part 3: Chapter 4-6 Multiple Choice You are expected to solve operations in algebraic approach in relation to the

(50% of the exam) sections.This includes topics in Math 13(Plane Geometry) to enhance your abilities
in computing and solving mathematical equation.You will have a short quiz every
end of the lesson, a group activity in the middle of the week and a long quiz every
Friday. Assessment for this period of the course is a periodical examination.
Final Exam Part 1-3 Multiple Choice This assessment task is designed for you to come up deep understanding in the

First Exam Part 1: Chapter 1 Board work  In this task, you are required to solve the fundamental concepts in Cartesian coordinate
(30% of the exam) system, line segments,distance between two points, midpoint of line segment, division of line
segment, inclination and slope of a line , parallel and perpendicular lines in analytic approach to
utilize it in the process of solving solutions of mathematical equations in Cartesian plane.
 You will be graded according to the following criteria (see rubric attached) for Board work:
1. Cleanliness in Presentation (20 points)
2. Speed and Accuracy(80 points)
Second Exam Part 2: Chapter 2-3 Activity Worksheet  The purpose of this task is for you to develop your skills in solving algebraic approach in relation
(50% of the exam) to the coordinate system involving distances of two points, slope of lines, equations of lines.
 You are required to answer required number of worksheet on a specified time frame.
 You will be given additional task for you to work at home.
 You will be graded according to the following criteria (see rubric attached):

a. Attendance is counted from the first regular class meeting.
b. A validated student identification card must always by worn be all students while attending classes.
c. Cheating is strictly prohibited. Any form of dishonesty shall be dealt with accordingly. Honesty is called for at
all times.
d. Valid examination permits are necessary in taking the examinations as scheduled. CELLULAR PHONES or any
ELECTRONIC GADGETS and PRESCRIBED PRC CALCULATORS are NOT allowed during EXAMINATIONS.
e. Base-20 grading policy should be observed. Students who obtained failing scores in major exams are
recommended to attend the tutorial class.
