SECTION 03 41 00 – PRECAST STRUCTURAL CONCRETE

1.1 SUMMARY
A. Provide design, fabrication, delivery, and installation of precast, reinforced and prestressed
concrete hollow-core slab units. Precast structural concrete shall be designed to account for
appropriate loads, for loading configurations and requirements, and shall be coordinated with the
parameters set forth by the architectural, structural and aesthetic requirements. Provisions for the
connection of work by other trades and the location of all embedded items shall be anticipated as
needed.

1.2 REQUIREMENTS
A. Design: Precast structural concrete shall be performed under the supervision of a licensed
Structural Engineer and experienced in design of precast concrete structures.

B. Hollow-Core Slab Units: Precast, prestressed concrete units with open, hollow cores running the full
length of the slab units, free of voids or honeycombs. Reinforce units to resist transportation and
erection stresses. Include required cast-in weld plates.
1. Cement, aggregate and other materials shall be as specified in Section 033000/Concrete.
2. Concrete shall have a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 48MPa (Fcu), and a release
strength of 30MPa (Fcu). Precast concrete to meet AASHTO-T277 or ASTM C1202 with a
maximum water cement ratio of 0.40.

C. Reinforcing materials, fabrication, etc., for reinforcing shall meet applicable ASTM standards as
specified in Section 032000/Concrete Reinforcement and embedded assemblies.
1. Reinforcing Bars: ASTM A 615M, Grade 520 MPa (Grade 75).
2. Welded Plain Wire Fabric: ASTM A 185.
3. Prestressing Strand: ASTM A 416, uncoated seven-wire stress-relieved strand, with a
minimum tensile strength of 1,860MPa.

D. Connection Materials and Embedded Items:

1. Steel Shapes and Plates: ASTM A 36.
2. Bolts and Studs: ASTM A 307, Grade A.
3. Welded Headed Studs: AWS D1.1, Type B headed studs.
4. Deformed-Steel Wire Bar Anchors: ASTM A 496.
5. Welding Electrodes: Comply with AWS requirements.
6. Provide accessories required to install precast concrete units.
7. Shop-Primed Finish: Prepare exposed surfaces of interior steel items, according to
requirements of SSPC-SP 3 and shop-apply primer according to SSPC-PA 1.

E. Bearing Pads: Provide bearing pads of the type required for the stresses imposed.
1. Elastomeric Pads: AASHTO M 251.
2. Random, Fiber-Reinforced Elastomeric Pads.
3. Cotton-Duck-Fabric-Reinforced Elastomeric Pads.
4. High-Density Plastic.

F. Formwork: Provide forms of appropriate material that is non-reactive with concrete and will produce
