Removal

NOTICE: The crankshaft or camshafts must not be rotated while the timing belt is removed.

1. Disconnect the following items:

1. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

2. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

12. Remove the following items:

1. Refer to: Starter Motor (303-06E Starting System - 1.5L Duratorq-TDCi (88kW/120PS), Removal and Installation).

15. NOTICE: Make sure that the crankshaft is not rotated while the special tool is installed.

Install Special Service Tool: 303-393 Locking Tool, Flywheel.

18. NOTICE: Make sure that the crankshaft is not rotated while the special tool is installed.

Remove Special Service Tool: 303-393 Locking Tool, Flywheel.

20. NOTICE: Take extra care when handling the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor ring.

NOTE: This step is not necessary when installing a new component.

NOTE: Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.

Torque: 20 Nm

21. NOTE: The special tool can only be installed if the valve timing is correct.

Install Special Service Tool: 303-732 Alignment Peg, Crankshaft.

22. NOTICE: Only rotate the camshaft clockwise.

NOTE: The special tool can only be installed if the valve timing is correct.

Install Special Service Tool: 303-735 Alignment Peg, Camshaft.

1. NOTICE: Use a wooden block to protect the oil pan when supporting the engine.

31. NOTE: If during the course of service repairs a timing belt change is required, the fuel injection pump sprocket must be renewed as well. For further information, refer to GSB-

Installation

1. NOTE: Make sure that a new component is installed.

NOTE: Make sure a new nut is installed.

Stage 6 only
Torque: 50 Nm

2. NOTE: Make sure that new components are installed.

Torque: 37 Nm

3. NOTE: Make sure that new components are installed.

NOTE: Only tighten the bolt finger tight at this stage.

4. Install the General Equipment: Dowel with a Diameter of 5 mm

5. NOTICE: Make sure that the component is not bent.

NOTE: Make sure that a new component is installed.

6. Torque: 30 Nm

7. Torque: 55 Nm

8. NOTE: Only tighten the nuts and bolts finger tight at this stage.

Torque:
1:: 90 Nm

10. Remove Special Service Tool: 303-732 Alignment Peg, Crankshaft.

11. Remove the General Equipment: Dowel with a Diameter of 5 mm

12. Torque: 10 Nm

13. Remove Special Service Tool: 303-735 Alignment Peg, Camshaft.

14. NOTICE: Only rotate the crankshaft clockwise.

Rotate the crankshaft 10 revolutions.

15. NOTICE: Only rotate the camshaft clockwise.

Install Special Service Tool: 303-732 Alignment Peg, Crankshaft.

16. NOTICE: Only rotate the camshaft clockwise.

NOTE: The special tool can only be installed if the valve timing is correct.

Install Special Service Tool: 303-735 Alignment Peg, Camshaft.

17. Install the General Equipment: Dowel with a Diameter of 5 mm

18. Remove Special Service Tool: 303-735 Alignment Peg, Camshaft.

/
19. Remove Special Service Tool: 303-732 Alignment Peg, Crankshaft.

/
20. Remove the General Equipment: Dowel with a Diameter of 5 mm

/
21. Discard the bolt.

22. Torque: 4 Nm

23. NOTICE: Make sure that the crankshaft is not rotated while the special tool is installed.

Install Special Service Tool: 303-393 Locking Tool, Flywheel.

24. NOTE: Make sure a new bolt is installed.

Torque:
Stage 1: 35 Nm
Stage 2: 190°

Remove Special Service Tool: 303-393 Locking Tool, Flywheel.
