Content Area: ELA: Grammar: Finding Nouns in a Sentence

1. Standard: CC.1.1.2.D: Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in
decoding words. • Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-
syllable words. • Decode two-syllable words with long vowels and words with common
prefixes and suffixes. • Read grade-level high-frequency sight words and words with
inconsistent but common spelling-sound correspondences. • Read grade-appropriate
irregularly spelled words.

 Students understand what a noun is

3. Essential Questions:
 What is a noun?
 Why are nouns important?
 How do we find a noun in a sentence?

5. Instructional Objective: Students will be able to find nouns within a sentence and display
their understanding on an exit ticket activity.

6. Instructional Procedures:

 Before: The teacher will begin by introducing the focus of our lesson today.
Today we will be working on finding nouns in a sentence. The teacher will then
review what a noun is and build upon the morning activity of show and share that
the teacher charter into person/place/thing. We will then move into the power
point and review what a noun is. The teacher will then tell the students their job
and play a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rQwr3EuQ_o .

 During: The teacher will pause the video on sentences and explain how we find a
noun and which worse are not nouns and how we know that. The teacher will then do
several review sentences and call on students to find the nouns and how they know
they are nouns.
 After: The teacher will then display one sentence on the screen and ask each student
to find the nouns and write them down or send them into the chat. The students will
then complete an exit ticket activity and submit it on google classroom.

7. Assessment: This lesson will be informally assessed by having students write down and
share responses. lesson will be formally assessed upon review of a submitted exit ticket
on google classroom.

8. Differentiated Instruction:
 For students who require more learning support, 1:1 instruction with instructional
assistant or teacher can be implemented.
 Small group breakout room partners can be strategically designed by the teacher prior to
the lesson to increase participation and learning by offering different views, personality
matches, and learning levels.
 For students who struggle with comprehension of text, the teacher can provide a handout
with key points.
 ESL students will be able to provide oral or picture explanations to the teacher to assess
understanding.
 For students who finish early, the teacher will ask them to go into the early finishers
folder for enrichment purposes.
