 LAS LAJAS SANCTUARY

Hello, we are Robinson Ramirez, Jonathan Oviedo and Briyith Mendez, and we will speak
of a beautiful place: las lajas sanctuary.
It is a temple and basilica for the Christian worship and veneration of Our Lady of the
Lajas; it is located in the canyon of the Guáitara river, in the small town of the Lajas seven
kilometers from the municipality of Ipiales, in the Nariño department, Colombia and ten
kilometers from the border with Ecuador. Its main building is twenty-seven. Fifty meters
high and its towers one hundred meters; and, it has a bridge that is fifty meters long and
seventeen meters width.

Tell the story, that at the end of the years one thousand seven hundred a woman and her
deafmute daughter walked through the canyon of the Guáitara river when a very strong
storm began, they began to feel a voice calling to them and they saw the image of the
Virgin Mary, the woman's daughter recovered her voice and could also hear; this is one of
the miracles told around this shrine.

Many Colombians go to the shrine to make a pilgrimage and ask for things impossible for
man, but possible for God. This beautiful temple has many precious stones, it is well known
for his painting with a golden crown, sapphires, diamonds, pearls and emeralds. In the
shrine, you can see the lajas, which are flat stones and wide of gray color that surrounds
whole place.
