MY THOUGHTS ABOUT “A Beautiful Mind”

In the movie "A Beautiful Mind", the main character, John Nash, is an extremely
intelligent person. During his days at college, he spends most of his time making mathematical
equations and theories involving everything from pigeon movements to probabilities of getting
girlfriends. At first my impression was how intelligent John Nash was, as most people who
suffer from mental illness. The feeling of sorrow came over me, as I watched him struggle with
the feelings of loneliness and depression; he struggled to find focus for his project and a place in
the student hierarchy. I wondered if it was because of his lack of family support that he became
socially awkward, and his lack of correct emotional responses in social situations. He later
marries a woman named Alicia and continues to work for Parcher. Alicia begins to question his
paranoid behaviors involving his work. He is taken by Dr. Rosen to a psychiatric ward where Dr.
Rosen notices that John is seeing people that don’t exist and finds that he has schizophrenia.
John’s code breaking job turns out to be just inside of his mind. He receives treatments and
medicine for his disease but he later continues his job for Parcher after he stops taking his
medication. Alicia finds that he is continuing his job and John sees for the first time that the
people he’s seeing aren’t real. He goes back to the ward and learns how to deal with his
hallucinations and continues his life teaching and sharing his mind.  In the end, John won a
Nobel Prize Award for his theories despite his complication in the mind which is Schizophrenia.

The movie informed me about the condition of having Schizophrenia. Yes, I actually talk
to myself often, imagine things that doesn’t exist, sometimes believed in my own thoughts.
Unfortunately, Mr. John Nash life is more miserable and very difficult to understand at first but
as I watched the movie I systematically understand this illness more. The treatment given to John
Nash was Insulin Shock which for me was very brutal. I saw the reaction of his wife when she
watched his husband treated by it and it was very heartbreaking. I believe that the people with
Schizophrenia are those that were always alone and stressed. Antisocial are prone with it. People
with this kind of disorder deserve to live in a place where the citizens are more understanding
since these people need social support. This movie encourage me to respect and understand
people who has mental problem or illness that I can truly apply hopefully in our psychia The
movie for me was nice and very informative. It was boring at some points but I still like it. The
most important thing I realized is about love. As you noticed, Alicia didn’t leave John despites of
all challenges and nearly death moments just like leaving the baby in the bath tub alone that
made love is the cure to almost all the difficult problems in the world.
