Personal Statement

Life is becoming more and more convenient by the inventions of different machines. I believe
that engineers have played a major part in making the 21 st century so overwhelming.  This
developed my ambition to be a part of this great prolific system.

There are many factors that cause my interest in this field. Since childhood I have had keen
interest in how machines work, how a plane flies and how I watch cartoons / movies on TV. My
curiosity leads me to open many devices and observe their mechanism. My fascination with
science has nurtured by the environment that I inhabit. My father runs an electrical engineering
department in a university and so I have learned a lot about engineering from him and his
colleagues by visiting their labs.

At high school I joined the engineering club. We maintained a record of winning competitions,
held at Lahore Science Museum for three consecutive years. Modeling the innovative ideas to
bring ease to life brought me with the enthusiasm towards engineering. I have gained the
expertise in computer hardware and software, as I worked in a computer hardware
workshop in COMSATS University as an internee for three months. I honed my skills in
installation of computer soft / hard wares, MS office and Mat-lab simulation. Presently I am
leading a team that is developing a prototype for the National Science Competition named
LUMS psifi. My Physics teacher, my parents and my guidance counselor encouraged me to
pursue a degree in engineering as they believed that I had the necessary skills. It was then; I
decided that I would certainly enter the engineering field.

I believe physics and mathematics, both of these subjects strengthen the fundamentals of

engineering. My interest in aeronautics has been reinforced by these subjects, as I
studied projectile motion, its different mathematical equations under different trajectories. The
mathematical equations beautifully describe the logic and concepts of a scientific phenomenon
and physics guides the practical aspect of the phenomenon by simple theories. Applying the
principals of physics and mathematics to design, develop and safeguard the highly complicated
products such as aircraft, missiles and space satellites has always motivated me to learn more
about aeronautical engineering.

I am a regular reader of numerous scientific magazines such as; Spider, New Scientist,

Everything Aerospace, Times magazine and on my weekends I browse internet to quench my
thirst of engineering knowledge. I have had the opportunity to visit an Air Force base with my
uncle (flight lieutenant). He and his colleagues briefed me everything about the C-130 and F-16,
an old and the latest plane that has been a great source of inspiration for me.

I have been involved actively in the extra co-curricular activities of the school. I have been a
part of scouting camp where I learned living under harsh conditions for weeks. I am a member
of my school’s basketball team. This sport has taught me the importance of discipline, patience
and teamwork. Apart from that I have participated a lot in debates at national level. Addressing
the huge audience has developed my confidence and improved the communication skills. I also
enjoyed studying Arts and Design up to my AS level.

Mr. Elbert Einstein and Sir Isaac Newton inspire me tremendously for studying in UK. Moreover,
the British education system is a great source of motivation for me because my father and my
mother had their PhDs in Electrical Engineering and Environmental Engineering respectively
from UK. I had my primary education from Green Field High School, Middlesex, UK and always
miss my childhood very much. I wish to pursue my career in the engineering discipline in a
conductive environment and I am sure I can prove myself in British education system much
better. I believe that by studying Aeronautics, I will be fulfilling my dreams and having the
exposure of this ever-expanding field.
