THE WATER ACT

(No. 43 of 2016)
NATIONAL PUBLIC WATER WORKS
IT IS notified for the general information of the public that,
pursuant to Article 43 of the Constitution of Kenya, as read with part
II sections 8 (1), (2) and 68 (a) of the Water Act, 2016, the Cabinet
Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation designates the following
bulk water systems and wastewater treatment facilities as National
Public Water Works—
(a) Northern Water Collector Tunnel System comprising:
Northern Collector Tunnel Phase I, Kigoro Water Treatment
Plant and water transmission pipelines from Thika Dam to
Kigoro Treatment Works at Gigiri reservoirs.
(b) Ruiru II Dam Water Supply System comprising Ruru II Dam,
Ruiru II Dam Water treatment plant and Ruiru II water
transmission pipelines.
(c) Karimenu II Dam Water Supply System comprising Karimenu
II Dam, Karimenu II Dam Water Treatment Plant and
Karimenu II Water transmission pipelines.
(d) The water supply system to Nairobi, Thika Dam, Mwagu and
Kimakia intakes, Ng’ethu Water Treatment Plant, Ruiru Dam
and Sasumua Dam, Sasumua Water Treatment Plant, Kabete
Water Treatment Plant, Ng’ethu-Gigiri Transmission
pipelines, Sasumua-Kabete transmission pipelines, Ruiru
Dam-Kabete transmission pipelines, Kabete-Karen-Ongata
Rongai pipeline and Gigiri-CBD-Mavoko-Kitengela pipeline.
(e) Dandora Estate Sewerage Treatment Plant and Kariobangi
Wastewater Treatment Plant.
(f) Nairobi Dam.
The designation of the above National Public Water Works takes
effect from the date of publication of this Gazette Notice and their
maintenance and management shall be vested with Athi Water Works
Development Agency.
