Psychographics

The Roddey McMillan Record is a monthly newspaper on Winthrop University’s campus

that is targeted to those that are interested in a newspaper that promotes awareness and

understanding issues concerning minorities for the betterment of the entire Winthrop

Community.

Demographics/Socio-graphics

The main target audience for The Roddey McMillan is male and female students and

faculty who are interested in learning current topics and issues that are presented in the world

today. The audience of the newspaper has a range of ages since it is not just targeted to students,

but the main age range would be 18-24-year-olds if they are a student at Winthrop. The

newspapers also targets those of all races, religions, sexual orientations, gender, and income.

Geographics

Unlike the Johnsonian, this newspaper is mainly for those who are on Winthrop’s campus

in the Rock Hill area. The newspaper also targets commuters that go to Winthrop in the Rock

Hill, York Country, and possible the Charlotte area,

Clubs and Organizations

Psychographics

Clubs and organizations on Winthrop University’s campus have been a huge part of

campus engagement for students. The University holds many organizations on campus that

sparks student’s interest in their career field or just for fun. The Mass Communication
department has many organizations that target student's career interests such as journalism,

broadcasting, video production, and those who are just interested in the world of

communications.

Demographics/Socio-graphics

These clubs and organizations target audience is mainly students who are a part of the

Mass Communication department majors such as Integrated Marketing Communication, Visual

Communication, etc. but all organizations welcome those who are a part of different majors.

Most organizations accept all people of different races, genders, sexual orientations, and

religions between the ages of 18-24 years old as a Winthrop Student. Though most organizations

accept all students, there are a few organizations such as the Association for Women in

Communications, who only target women, and Winthrop Association of Black Journalists, who

only target black students and other people of color, but they still welcome anyone who would

like to join.

Geographics

Since Winthrop University is located in Rock Hill, the Mass Communication department

clubs and organization targets only students who are in the approximate of the university such as

those who live on campus and those who live off-campus in the Rock Hill or York County area.

There is also a possibility that some students are in other parts of York County and the Charlotte

area as well.
TIPCUPS

Timeliness- Winthrop Association of Black Journalists has remained active on campus since the

start of the semester despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Interest- This story could interest the readers by knowing that there is an organization on

campus that is still active and creating events. This could give students a chance to join an

organization where they can be active on campus.

Prominence- The story will involve the Winthrop Association of Black Journalists and how they

have remained active on campus by still holding events and biweekly meetings.

Conflict- COVID-19 is a huge conflict for the organization. If it becomes worse on campus,

there is a possibility meetings and events will be canceled. Even though it is virtual, students'

mental and physical health is more important than the organization staying active.

Unusualness- Since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been hard for many mass communication

clubs and organizations to stay active on campus but WUABJ continues to put out content, create

events, and hold meetings.

Proximity- Due to the pandemic, everything hosted by the organization is virtual on Zoom to

protect the health of the exec board and its members.

Significance- Despite the pandemic, WUABJ has held their titles as one of the most active mass

communication organization on campus since the start of the pandemic.
