Fashion Report and Hat Design

Part 1

Fashion has always had a profound effect on society. The way people look and
dress have had a great influence on how society acts. Think of the early Europeans who
would wear hats made of beaver fur. This was a fashion statement. If you wore a Beaver
fur hat, it would show that you had money and were respectable. Some of these hats
would cost more than many would earn in an entire year of work. We see this attitude
with fashion today. If you wear certain clothes, you are seen in a certain way. This is
called a stereotype. Stereotypes are generalizations about groups and individual members
thereof, based primarily on membership in that group.

PowerPoint Presentation
Your assignment is to choose a fashion style (past or present), and research the
history of that fashion. (Ex. Cowboy, Hip-Hop, Skater, Hippy, business, etc.) Each point
should have be at least one slide (minimum 5).
 Describe the clothes. What is worn? (5pts)
 Where did it come from? (5pts)
 Why are certain articles of clothing worn? (5pts)
 What is the stereotype of the people that wear these clothes? (5pts)
 Your own opinion of the fashion. (5pts)

You will also need 3-5 pictures within your presentation that represent the fashion
that you are researching. (5pts)

This will be submitted on our Google Classroom.

Part 2

You will create Hat to be worn while we discuss our fashion reports. These hats
can be made in any fashion, but there needs to be evidence that you took the time to make
a hat to the best of your artistic ability. Bring the materials to class that you will need to
construct your hat. I will provide some coloured paper and a limited amount of scissors
and glue, so if you have your own bring them. (15pts)
