Title/Focus

PROGRAM OF STUDY OUTCOMES


 GLO A- Activity- Students will acquire skills through a variety of developmentally appropriate
movement activities; dance, games, types of gymnastics, individual activities and activities in an
alternative environment; e.g., aquatics and outdoor pursuits.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate a front hand serve and receive it
2. Understand the rules of badminton
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
 Hula hoops
 Cones
 Badminton rackets
 Birdies
 Nets and poles
 Mats
PREPARATION AND LOGISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS
 Set up badminton golf
 Print off scoring sheets for students
 Clear area
 Ensure there are enough rackets
 Print off hole numbers

PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
 Warm up game: Tiger tail 10 min
o Each student will have one pinnie and tuck it in their bottoms on the
side/back to have it hanging out
o Staying within the half basketball court boundaries, students will attempt
to steal others pinnies

o Once a pinnie is stolen, they will have five seconds to tuck it in without
anyone stealing
o The goal of the game is to retrieve as many pinnies as possible
o If a student has none, they must do five star jumps to come back in the
game and try to steal more pinnies
o There will be a time limit of 5 minutes
o Whoever has the most at the end wins
o Safety: no scratching, holding, or jumping on one another
Body Time
Rules 1) The entire class will come stand around one court to
learn the rules, with no rackets or birdies
a. Boundaries: singles (skinny) and doubles
(wide) lines
b. Points: Games are to 21, must win by 2 with a
cap at 30
i. Modification for half gym: games to 9 or
11
c. Serving: Singles- serve within service box:
skinny and long. Doubles- serve within service
box, wide and short
d. Serve must be underhand below the waist and 10 min
to the diagonal serving box
e. From 0-0, serve starts on right hand side. Even
numbers serve from the right, and off from the
left
f. Player serves until a point is lost, and when a
point is gained, other teammate will serve from
respective side
g. If the birdie lands on the line, it is in
h. Once the birdie is in play, it can go anywhere on
the court within the boundaries

Serving 1) Each student with a racket and a birdie 10 min

4) Hold birdie out in front of body
5) Draw racket back to swing underhand
6) As the birdie is dropped, swing through and make
contact below the waist
7) Follow through across the body and rotate hips and
trunk back to front and into ready position

2) Tee off from the mat
3) The hole will be a hula hoop with a cone in it
4) 9 holes with labels 1-9
5) Count every “stroke” until you hit it into the hoop
6) Record on the score sheet
7) Underhand strokes only- like a serve
8) Players will be in teams of 4

9) One player strokes at a time
10) Player furthest from the hole always goes first
11) Birdie must stay in hoop to count
12) Continue until everyone has hit the hole, record
scores, and move onto next hole
13) If there is a team at the next hole, wait until they are
all done
14) Focus on serve technique that we learned for serving
Reaction time 1) In partners
(if time allows) 2) Students will stand diagonally across from their
partner like they are going to serve it within the
boundaries
3) The partner with the birdie can serve it anywhere
within the service court
4) Their partner will lay on their belly anywhere within
the service boundaries for doubles
5) When the birdie is served, the partner laying down will
quickly get up and return the birdie to their partner
6) Once returned, the same person will serve it again to 5 min
repeat
7) 5 times each partner than switch

8) Progression: once the birdie is served, the person who


served it must lay down
9) Every time the birdie is hit, the student must lay down
and get back up to receive it
10)*modification for younger grades: sit down on their
bottoms rather than lay on their stomach

 Go over step by step all the rules we covered in class
 Let students by a raise of hands answer and share

Assessment
 Students will hand in their badminton golf sheets for assessment to gauge where students

 Observation of technique, effort, and participation
