Introduction

In this unit plan, students will learn the basic skills of bocce ball, along with the rules and guidelines of how to play.

Through a variety of games and activities, students will be assessed formatively and summatively to account for their

grade in the unit. Their attendance, participation and attitude will dictate their grade for the entire unit, as these are key

parts of successful physical activity. Students will be assessed before the unit, during, and afterwards on their knowledge

and skills of bocce ball through observation and a variety of assessments.

Students will be learning not only from the teacher, but also from each other in peer collaboration and teamwork.

This will provide the students opportunities to showcase what they have learned, and collaborate and learn from one

another, things that I believe are extremely important parts of student learning. For the final lesson, there will be a short

written quiz and a round robin bocce ball tournament where the students can show their skill while playing freely, and

most importantly, while having fun.

2
Grading Outline

This Bocce Ball unit consists of the following formal assessments with 50 marks and will contribute to 10% of your final grade.

1. Participation - 20 marks
2. Attitude - 10 marks
3. Knowledge/ Understanding - 10 marks
a. Quiz - 10 marks
The participation portion of the unit makes up the majority of the marks (20 marks). The purpose of assessing participation is
to provide the students with a hands-on opportunity to learn through experiencing various physical activities. The goal is to help
students begin to cultivate a desire to participate in these activities on a daily basis. Students are expected to show up on time and
dressed in appropriate attire in addition to actively participating in all the activities. Students are striving to work towards improving
their physical literacy skills.

Students are assessed on their attitude and actions during class time and this is worth 10 marks. Students are expected to
uphold the standards set out by the teacher to help maintain a healthy and inclusive learning environment that encompasses the
needs of the student. Students are to be respectful to one another and the teacher, and are willing to actively participate in all
activities. Level of participation, language, and actions must be conducive to positively adding to the overall classroom dynamic.

Knowledge and understanding of the unit is worth 20 marks. Students are provided multiple ways to share their competency
with the teacher and reflect on their own personal growth. Skills tests, a written quiz, questions of the day, activity logs and
observations are some assessment methods that may be used.
