1. What is the limitation of Coulomb’s law?
2. Calculate the Lorentz force on a current carrying conductor.
3. For sea water μ = μ0, ϵ = 70ϵ0 and conductivity σ = 5 S/m. find the skin depth for sea water.
4. Define propagation constant and phase velocity.
5. On what factors does the input impedance of a transmission line depend?

Answer any 5 out of 8 Questions 5 X 10M = 50 Marks

1. a) A circular disk of radius ‘a’ is uniformly charged with ρ s c/m2. If the disk lies on the
Z=0 plane with its axis the Z-axis. Show that at point (0, 0, h) [6M]

b) Calculate capacitance of a spherical capacitor. 4M]

2. A unit normal vector from region 2 (μ= 2μ0) to region 1 (μ= μ0) is an21 = (6ax + 2ay - 3az)/7.
If H1= 10ax + ay + 12az A/m and H2 = H2xax-5ay+4az A/m, determine

3. a) Prove that (E/H) = 120π Ω for free space.

4. a) Derive the expression for propagation constant of infinite transmission line.

c) Input impedance

6. (a) Find the magnitude of the electrostatic force between a 100μc change at (-1,1,-3) m
and a 20μc change at (3,1,0)m.
(b) Derive an expression for force on a current element in a magnetic field.
