The phase constant is β=10.45 rad/cm. The quantities x and y and a and b in the above
expression are in cm. Determine cut-off frequency, phase velocity, guided wavelength and
magnetic field intensity in the y-direction.
6. A rectangular waveguide is designed to propagate the dominant mode at 5 GHz. The cut-off
frequency is 0.8 of the signal frequency. The ratio of the guide height to width is 2. The time
average power flow through the waveguide is 1kW. Determine the magnitudes of electric and
magnetic fields inside the guide and indicate where these occur in the guide.
7. A rectangular waveguide operating at 3.5 GHz in the dominant TE10 mode has inside
dimensions a=7 cm b=3.5 cm. Calculate cut-off frequency, phase velocity and guided
wavelength.
8. A lossless transmission line of length 0.3λ with characteristic impedance of 500Ω is
excited by 10V generator at 1200 MHz. Calculate the input impedance of the line for
(a) Open circuited load (b) Short-circuited load.
9. A lossless transmission line is terminated in a 100Ω load. If the VSWR on the line is
1.5, find the two possible values for the characteristic impedance on the line.
10. A RF transmission line has standing wave minima 140 cm apart and last voltage minima
