My Senior Seminar Project
The project: For my Senior Seminar
project, I had the opportunity to internship
at a property development company
known as STRATUS Properties INC. I
studied the process of developing land and
the main project I learned the process
about was developing apartments in South
Austin. This project is called the “Lantana
Project”.

The Reflection: The construction of the
apartments wont take place until next year
because developing land is a slow and
meticulous process but I got to learn a
great deal about the process of developing
land and everything that has to go into the
project before it happens. I was nervous at
first during the weekly meetings being so
young and inexperienced in this topic, but
with a little research and as the weeks
went on I began to feel more open and
involved.
My main objectives for this internship were to learn how to use excel, to develop skills in
professionalism, be able to understand the site plans, and learn how to deal with neighborhood
opposition. I recieved my own copies of the plans to follow along with during the meetings and that
helped me to understand them immensely. I learned a lot about professionalism during the site visit by
paying attention to how everyone was presenting themselves and this was important to me because I
know how much professionalism matters to my future employers. The agendas for each meeting would
be posted on an excel spreadsheet so learning how to navigate through those helped me to learn more
about the platform which I know will be useful during my time in college and I studied past projects and
how they dealt with neighborhood opposition to see how it could affect The Lantana Project. Overall I
had an amazing experience and a lot of fun working with this group of people and I learned so much
information that will undeniably help me succeed while trying to obtain my major and hopefully during
my career as well.
