Demonstration Outline
“How to Perform CPR”
Specific Purpose: To demonstrate for my audience the way to handle an emergency situation and
perform CPR.
Central Idea: You never know when something bad might happen, and when or if something
does you can be prepared to help and not just stand by.

Intro
I. I am sure that everyone took it in high school, I took it twice.
II. They teach us this in high school as a skill to have in emergency situations.
Sometimes you need to know it for your job, like a lifeguard, a teacher, or a
healthcare professional.
III. The past three summers I have worked at a daycare that I have to be certified for
incase of a child getting hurt or choking. This past summer I actually had an infant
choking on a piece of a cracker.
Body
I. When someone goes into cardiac arrest the first steps you can take are:
1. Call 911 or have someone else call 911
2. If they are conscious ask for permission to help them, and tell them
that you know CPR and are able to help
II. If they give you permission, then you can check for their breathing and start CPR
1. Start by checking their breathing, gently lift their chin and listen
for breathing
2. If they are not breathing start compressions by placing one hand
over the other, then putting the heal of your hand on the sternum
3. Press firmly and compress up and down for thirty counts
4. After thirty compressions close their nose and give two breaths
into their mouth
5. Continue until help arrives or they start breathing on their own
Conclusion
Knowing how to perform CPR is important to be able to help others so that there is
no devastation. Because if help does not come quick enough then it may cause health
issues for the person hurt or even death.
