N479 Professional Activity Evaluation Form

Your Name: Maycee Ruiz Date of Activity: November 07, 2020 Faculty name: Rajni Parmar

1.Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with (be

specific about the purpose and your role): I took a BLS course to renew my BLS certification

through the American Red Cross.

Where was this held and what was was program/activity length? This was held at the University

of Arizona Campus Recreation Center. The total work for the certification was 4 hours-worth.

Half of this was completed online before attending the in-person class, and the other half was

completed through hands on practice in person.

Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific). This experience was not only valuable

in the fact that it was required to renew my Basic Life Support Certification, but I also learned

more than I thought that I would have. The last time that I took this course for the certification

was before nursing school when I did not have any medical background. My new ability to

visualize the situation better helps me understand and fully absorb the concepts being taught and

techniques used, as I am a visual learner.

How would you continue to use this experience throughout your nursing career? Having taken

this course twice now, I feel way more prepared to initiate or assist with basic life support in a

real life clinical setting.

Would you recommend this specific communnity/professional experience in the future; why or

why not? (Describe) I would recommend that students do this for their professional activity so
that their certification is up to date when applying for jobs during the last semester of nursing

school.

Brochure or proof of attendance obtained if applicable? Yes (below) Signature on

validation of clinical hours form obtained? N/A

2. Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with (be

specific about the purpose and your role): I completed the AACN COVID-19 Pulmonary, ARDS

and Ventilator Resources course.

Where was this held and what was was program/activity length? This was an online course that

took 4 hours to complete.

Discuss the value of this experience to you (be specific). This experience was valuable because I

now feel more comfortable with ventilator settings and supplemental oxygen. Ventilator settings

are complex and can be difficult to understand in just one class during third semester, so this

course was very helpful.

How would you continue to use this experience throughout your nursing career? If I ever have a

patient who is on a ventilator, experiencing ARDS, or even just someone who needs

supplemental oxygen, I will use the skills and knowledge that I have learned in this course.

Would you recommend this specific communnity/professional experience in the future; why or

why not? (Describe) I would recommend this professional experience because it uses examples,

case scenarios, and visuals to help participants really grasp the concepts taught.

Brochure or proof of attendance obtained if applicable? Yes (below) Signature on

validation of clinical hours form obtained? N/A
