Carrie Review
With Stephen King’s original story as inspiration, Brian DePalma’s team of filmmakers
embody the feeling of fear terrifically in “Carrie” 1976. More specifically a very certain fear that
exists in the subconscious of many adolescents, the fear of being an outcast. The tite main
Character has gone through life never feeling the relief of something having gone her way.
Never stepping up on the social ladder. A ladder whose rungs are experiences that have been
deemed necessary in the climb to adulthood. Like a period, or a prom date, or the feeling of
belonging in any group of people. She’s constantly been held on the outside of these things,
constantly the butt of the joke. Everyone is able to empathize for this near superhero, who is
sent over the edge after being humiliated by a cruel prank and is able to harness years of
suffering into revenge against all who worsened and were complacent while she had to suffer,
for not helping. This could be anyone if hard work, or luck, or loved ones hadn’t come through
in favour of growth in the right times, without a life supply of positive experiences to cherish. It
argues that even put through a combination of experiences so unlucky, human will can still
prevail, and it leads to a very thrilling climax which leaves the audience very entertained.
