Individualized PD Plan

Melissa Miller

Learning Targets:
● Teachers will participate in webinars and workshops that interest them.
● Teachers will improve student learning by being introduced to different ways to
incorporate technology.
● Teachers will be prepared for remote learning, should the school need to go offline.

Schedule:

8:00-8:45am Breakfast and Survey

● This time would be designated for staff members to come in, grab a light breakfast, and
assess where they are with technology use. They would fill out a Google Survey, that
would allow me to assess where a staff member is in their technology use.

8:45-9:00am Overview of the Day

● I would go over the agenda for the day and what participants can expect to do over the
day. I would also go over the learning targets for the day.

9:00-10:15am Teacher Led Workshops

● I recruited teachers a few weeks ago to lead workshops based on different technology
platforms, like Google Classroom, Zoom, Hangouts, Math based Tech, Reading Tech,
etc. There will be 3-4 to choose from during this hour and fifteen minute session. These
Workshops will be repeated in the afternoon, so that attendees can hit at least 2 of the
teacher lead workshops. Attendees would have already picked the workshop at least
two days in advance in order to make sure there are enough supplies and room.

10:15-10:30am Break and Snack

10:30-11:45am Webinar Archives

● Teams or individual teachers can take this opportunity to enroll in an hour webinar that
they can watch that they feel would enhance their own learning. They should take the
quiz afterwards to get a certificate to get credit for their learning.

11:45am-12:15pm Small Group Debrief

● At tables teachers will meet with their grade level or specialist teams to debrief items
from this morning. They should add Ah Ha’s or important learnings to a Google Form to
be compiled later on a document. They can submit the form several times.

12:15-1:15pm Lunch

1:15-1:30pm Welcome Back

● This time slot would be to welcome groups back and announce the plan for the rest of
the afternoon.

1:30-2:00pm Personal Learning Networks in Education

● We would watch the Ted Ed Video: “Learning Networks could Reconfigure Schools” by
Steve Regur. Afterwards, Teachers in small groups would discuss PMI’s. They would
describe Pluses, Minuses, and Interesting ideas from the video. For their own personal
use, they will be required to record somewhere, one way that they will commit to joining
a PLN, then by the end of the week they have to let a trusted colleague know what that
goal was for accountability.

2:00-2:15pm Break

2:15-3:30pm Teacher Led Workshops

● Same workshops as above so that teachers can choose a different one then they did
this morning. Attendees would have already picked the workshop at least two days in
advance in order to make sure there are enough supplies and room.

3:30-4:00pm Wrap Up and Surveys

● We will share our collective learnings with our small groups. Attendees will fill out their
own individual PD Reflection on a Google Form with their next steps. I will mention here
that I will be checking in with participants to see how I can best support them.

Explanations

In my PD, I tried to incorporate as much choice as possible. The ways in which I did this

was by offering teacher led sessions and free webinars. In the adult learning theory, learning

must be relevant to the learner and what better way to do that then allowing them choice.

(Alaniz, 2015) I also am allowing staff to attend sessions and webinars with their teams. A lot

of times teams want to attend sessions together so they can discuss their ideas as they learn.

Others prefer the divide and conquer approach, so I wanted to honor both of those types of

teams.

Another thing I chose to do was have the attendees pick their Teacher workshop choices

before the PD Day. The reason that I did this was to give teachers time to really think about

what they wanted to learn that day. I have been in situations where I think I want to go to one

workshop, but then having to make a last minute decision and just trying to find the closest room

to walk into that still has room. I wanted participants to be purposeful about their choices. I also

wanted to make sure that leaders were prepared with their supplies and a count on how many

they thought were attending. The webinar could be chosen that day.

I made the conscious decision to introduce staff to Personal Learning Networks during

this PD, so they could see their value. In Personal Learning Networks, Richardson &

Mancabelli stress the importance of PLNs when they mention that “we need to see that

self-learning, informal learning, and learning not connected with school are a huge part of what

we need to teach” (Richardson, 2011, p.8). I wanted to stress that importance with the teachers

using the Tedx Talk video to show this and something that they could debrief with their team on.

Lastly, I chose to do an end of PD survey that required teachers to choose their next

steps with their learning. I felt this was an important part of the PD to reflect on their learning.

Adults need time to do this. (Alaniz, 2015) I also wanted them to know that when they chose
these next steps that they were not alone. I specifically mentioned that I would follow up with

them and their next steps to see how I could best support them with their new learning.
