FURAN MIXER SYSTEM

Terms of Reference:

A. Furan Mixer
a. General
i. Designed for connection to 440 V, 3 phase 60 Hz power supply
ii. Output rate of 3 – 6 tonnes per hour or better
iii. Shaft speed of approximately 520 rpm
iv. Trough drive of maximum 4 kW
v. Trough centers of at least 1515 mm
vi. Angle of pivot must be at least 270 degrees
vii. Inlet height must be adjusted to the existing sand hopper system
viii. Can accommodate two (2) types of catalysts
ix. Delivery period is 120 calendar days
b. Mixing Trough
i. Preferably constructed from steel plate at least 10mm thick
ii. Mixing trough must be lined with HDPE plastic
iii. The mixing trough must be constructed in two halves, each opening through
90 degrees for easy cleaning of mixer barrel and quick blade changes
iv. The hinged trough and control panel sections must be equipped with
interlocks, to ensure that all moving parts have stopped before allowing
access to the mixing area, and that the mixing trough is locked before control
panel is operated
v. The mixing barrel must be fitted with a three-way-calibration-valves for easy
calibration of chemicals and eliminates the need to remove chemical hoses
from fittings when calibrating
vi. Mixing shafts must be made from solid steel bar with slotted carriages, which
will hold captive in-fixed-position of the mixer blades.
vii. The mixer blades must be interchangeable variable pitch tungsten-carbide
tipped for high wear-resistant characteristics
viii. The shaft must be supported on flanged bearings at each end on the main
frame external to the trough
ix. The shaft drive must be through a geared motor and a flexible coupling
x. Must be equipped with air-purging assist capability for eliminating the need
to detach chemical hoses from injection port for the collection of chemicals
c. Controls
i. The control cabinet enclosure must be rated to at least IP54 protection
ii. The control cabinet equipped with self-diagnostic fault finding facility and all
the necessary starters and controls to operate the mixer
iii. Must be equipped with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) interfaced with
Human Machine Interface (HMI) screen with at least the following
capabilities:
1. Selection of multiple mixing programs and self-diagnostic fault
indication
2. Pumping system automatically varies binder addition levels in
accordance with new or reclaimed sand delivery from the sand gate
3. Calibration of pumps/binders can be automatic and calibrate times
are pre-set by the PLC
4. The system is fitted with sand low-and-high level probes in the sand
hopper and in the sand transporter pressure vessel which
automatically convey sand from the pressure vessel to the sand
hoppers when the low-level probes indicate low sand, and stops
delivering sand when high-level probe is triggered
d. Pumping System
i. Resin and catalyst pumps must be multi-programmable for different recipes
ii. The pumps must be of gear pumps with completely sealed magnetic drives,
driven by inverter speed controlled AC motors
B. Support Systems
a. Sand Blending Gate
i. Must include a 4-way pneumatic sand blending gate to provide either of the
following: 100% new sand; 100% reclaim sand; Pre-set blend of new/reclaim
sand at the mixer station
ii. Must be readily adaptable to the existing sand hopper system
iii. Must provide 1 unit air compressor rated to at least 6 HP
b. Sand Transporter Pressure Vessel
i. Throughput of up to 1 tph
ii. Must provide a pneumatic transporter which will be integrated in the existing
Omega sand reclamation machine
iii. Must be equipped with pneumatic butterfly valve and is controlled by a timer
housed in the control panel
iv. Must be constructed from steel plate at least 8mm thick of Grade 26a Steel
plate to BS1501 or equivalent
v. Must be equipped with necessary sockets for air inlet and pressure sensor
c. Sand and Mold Testing
i. 1 set Loss-on Ignition Tester High Temperature Furnace
ii. 1 set Sand Compressive Tester for Furan Molds, with test piece mold
d. Mold Preparation
i. 1 unit Spray Gun for mold refractory coating
C. Installation
a. Must include site preparation and dismantling of old unit and accessories
b. Must include all related civil works in the installation of the equipment and
connection to power and compressed air supplies
D. Training, Commissioning, Warranty and Other Requirements
a. Factory pre-delivery inspection / buy-off for four (4) participants
b. On-site training on operation and maintenance
c. Must include at least 1 year warranty on parts and services
d. Supplier must have supplied the same equipment (furan mixer) locally within the
last 2 years. A list of local installation for the same equipment must be provided.
