LEARNING TASK FOR MODULE 2.1

Note: By this time, you have expressed an experience you had encountered in the past related to

Objectives: At the end of the chapter, the students should be able to:
State the definitions for measurement, evaluation and assessment.
Deduce the differences among measurement, evaluation and assessment through activities
which require their use.
Identify activities which specifies the use of measurement, evaluation and assessment.
assessment, you have viewed and understood the message behind the story of Teddy and you
have read and noted important details in the module. Be reminded that for this lesson our
objectives were the following. These are the bases for the preparation of the activities you are
required to comply with. Download this document, answer it and save it as PDF file before
turning it in. It has to be saved in PDF so it will not be re-arranged messing up the placement of
your answers (especially in the Venn Diagram).
ACTIVITY 1: Using the following Venn Diagram, present the similarities and differences
among measurement, evaluation and assessment. Be mindful of the intersecting lines because
they have a message to convey. You must write the concept in the proper area in the circle. If
you are not familiar with the intentions of the Venn Diagram, you may read about it in

ASSESSMENT
ACTIVITY 2: Using the Venn Diagram you made, state a 5-sentence conclusion you realized
about the three concepts. The conclusion must revolve around the differences and similarities of
measurement, evaluation and assessment.

Measurement, evaluation and assessment must all come together for the purpose of
understanding and determine the learning capacity of the students. It helps in developing
the capability of students as well as teachers. Students will have a chance to improve
themselves in areas that they lack. Teachers will also know how to be an effective and
efficient educator with the use of these mediums. There may be differences between
those three but it is a systematic process that aims to understand the students.

ACTIVITY 3: SITUATIONAL EXAMPLES: Write down a situation (a situation in this

activity does not refer to a word or one sentence, it is a paragraph presenting a short story or a
description) which presents an example for the given concepts. (30 PTS)

Ms. Pink topic today`s is simile, metaphor and personification. Her

objective is to have a students: Classify the figure of speech. She gave the
students examples and have them group expressions under each figure of
Measurement speech. Together with the students, they checked the answers. Ms. Pink
collected the scores and found out that the average scores recorded is 8/10.
She also observed that 80% of the students had a passing score of 8,9,10.

Ms. Pink computed that the MPS is 8/10. She marked the 8 as passing and 7
as failing based on the 75% passing rate. Therefore , she decided to continue
to the next lesson for tomorrow. On the other hand, those student with
Evaluation failing scores will have a remedial activity.

Assessment Ms. Pink asked the students who failed the activity to stay after class. After
the remedial class , she noticed that Brian did not pass. She then asked him
to have a take home activity. The next day, Ms. Pink checked Brian`s
homework but it still failed. She asked Brian for any clarification about the
activity but he was too shy/timid to ask. Ms. Pink asked some of her
colleagues for Brian`s previous performance and found out that Brian excels
in Math and Science but English. Ms. Pink made another follow – up
activity for Brian but she changed the topic to number and science where
simile , metaphor and personification were applied. Brian performance
improved after the followed up activity happened.

ACTIVITY 4: Using the experiences that you have narrated in the engage activity, Teddy’s
story and concepts in module 2.1, explain - in 10 sentences - the relevance of assessment in the
teaching-learning process. (20 PTS)

Assessment is a critical step in learning. But, assessment such as those remedials,

quiz , exams will help in realizing whether the goal or objective was achieved or not.
Assessment is both beneficial to educators and learners. Assessment will be serving
a guide or basis in order for the teacher to teach or demonstrate well. It helps to
understand the different skills and performance of learners. Assessment is
important to educators, by assessing the performance of the student , it will help
them to determine whether their way of delivering effective or they need to change
it. It also helps in ensuring that learners relevant topics which they are supposed to.
Assessment will helps also learners to be more active and motivated in learning.
Wherein, learners explore the very best of their abilities.
