Quality Street Reflection Essay

This is my reflection essay on our advert about Quality Street. Our brief was to
create an advert for the product Quality Street, but we had to appeal to a new
target audience, I found this quite easy because Quality Street adverts are
more focused on values like family and sharing (Psychometrics) rather than age
and gender (Demographic)
Before filming we started filming, we did some research on the Quality Street
brand and looked at some of there old adverts. This was beneficial because we
could see the structure of their ads and how they filmed them. When it comes
to ideas everyone in my group came up with our own idea, this was good
because it gave us lots of ideas to work with and if one of our ideas did not
work out, we could fall back on the others. After sharing our ideas, we decided
on one of my teammate’s ideas, where someone would be eating a box of
Quality Streets by themselves, then someone else comes in and the person
eating tries to protect the box of chocolates but then the person comes over
and eats the chocolates that the other person does not like so they put it on
the table separate from the others. The person with the box then realises that
he can share. I feel like this idea works well because it reinforces the idea that
Quality Street are meant to be shared. When it comes to the Ideation process,
we split the work between us. I did the shot list where I talked about the
camera angles for when were filming. I was also the camera man for when we
were filming, I used a range of filming techniques for example we had a shot of
someone coming though a door. So, I did a close on the door handle to
emphasise it because it is a main part of the ad. A main issue we came across
was audio because we wanted so many specific bits of audio, so we decided to
record our own sounds. I’m really happy we did this because it means we could
use original sounds instead of ones off of YouTube.
I feel like our ad meets the criteria effectively because it shows that teenagers
should share with other people, therefore I would say it appeals to a new
target audience.
