Reflection Essay for My Montage Film

This is my reflection essay for my montage film the way of the brush.
This week we were tasked to make a montage film, I was very excited to make
a montage because Ive always liked watching them in films and wondered how
they were made. Throughout my film I used various shots, for example, in the
scene where the student is balancing on the wall, I switched between different
shots, one from the side and the other from the front. I did this to change up
the camera angles so they wouldn’t look the same and because the mise en
scene of the shot was really nice, with the student looking into the distance
while balancing. I also zoomed in lots in specific shots, like the scenes where
the student is putting toothpaste on different objects, I zoomed in on the
toothbrush to signify that it is the main focus of the shot.
A problem I had while filming was the training scene where we match our
movements, we had to do a couple of takes to get our movements synced up
but after that we were fine. I didn’t really have many issues of than that.
If I were to do my film again, I would put more effort into my acting, although
it has improved lots since my first film, I’m still quite camera shy, this will get
better the more time I’m on camera but it is the main thing I need to focus on.
I feel like this film meets the brief effectively, I’ve shown that I understand
what a montage is and how to make one. Ive learnt lots of things from making
this film but I think the main one is to rerecord sound if its bad, my film would
not be the quality it is if I didn’t rerecord the voices.
Overall, this is my favourite film that I’ve made in this unit, I really enjoyed the
whole process and am excited to make more.
