I. GENERAL INFORMATION
A. Project Site
Pamasawata is just one of the 188 communities in Caloocan City. It is
located along Dagat-Dagatan, Circumferential 3 road(C3). It is also considered to
be one of the most depressed areas in the entire city. Many issues have been
written about the said barangay, mostly were about accidents, crimes and
demolition encounters since it has become a place for many informal settlers. The
community has an estimated population of about 2,000- 3,000, about 400-500
households.

B. Implementing Group
The project will be implemented by Group B of FT1A, NSTP-CWS
class, facilitated by Dr. Rachel Espiritu.

II. RATIONALE
A. Context of the Project

The project is to be implemented as part of the requirements needed in the

Colegio’s National Services Training Program-Civic Welfare Services, which in turn
would help us conduct the program. This project aims to reach out to the less
fortunate ones in ways that can be beneficial for the 2 parties (the students and
the community) and also to make them aware about the present state of the
community that is needed to work on. These goals can be addressed by:
 Teaching them the proper waste segregation/management/disposal,
also to provide materials for this to become possible.
 Donating garbage can and teaches them how to maintain cleanliness.
 To avoid and lessen the number of mosquitoes by putting anti-
dengue plants (lemon grass/tanglad) in the community.

B. Need for the project

Aside from being a course requirement, this project is needed for
implementation because of the evident poor situation of their surroundings. The
area alone is surrounded by the foul-smelling, polluted river/creek and there is
the presence of improper waste disposal. However, on the duration of our
interviews, the people of Pamasawata expressed their willingness to cooperate if
ever there will be projects to be done that would be beneficial to them. They
were also eager and hospitable on welcoming us.

Also the community is in the midst of lower economic class/status. For

most of the families we have interviewed, the head of the family is employed but
on casual/contractual status, whose income falls under 5000 and below. Because
of which, they almost always experience budget shortage and scarcity of needs.

We believe that the environment and economic problems of the families

must be acted upon and so, our project would address to these needs by the
activities we have for the project. All we need is right and appropriate
interventions.

III. OBJECTIVES
The project, hopes to be mutually beneficial to the community and to us as
students of Letran. Hence,

1. Towards the development of the community, this project hope to:

a. Provide knowledge to the people when it comes to action-
intervention on environmental problems
b. Enhance their potentials/skills so to contribute for the wellness of
their lives/surroundings
2. For our own self development, we are implementing this project to:
a. Promote goodness and great sense of volunteerism among
ourselves especially on situations such as this.
b. Inspire others to do/act the same even in the most expedient
ways.
