Freshwater fish culture in China is mainly polyculture of the “family fish”, the Chinese major carps, in
combination with other species with complementary feeding habits, to utilize all the available food
materials in the water. Monospecies culture is used only for fry and fingerlings up to 3 cm size.

The main species raised is the grass carp in combination with bighead, silver carp, black carp, mud carp,
common carp and bream. The proportion of each species varies according to prevailing pond conditions
and raw materials available for fish rearing.

There are two types of polyculture practised in China, namely multigrade and mixed-age fish culture.

As stated above, Chinese aquaculture uses a polyculture method of culturing fish(grass carp, bighead,
silver carp, black carp, mud carp, common carp and bream). With regards to polycuture, multigrade and
mixed-age fish culture are used.

Multigrade fish culture is a technique whereby fish are reared in a series of ponds from fingerlings to
marketable size, with fish sorted in the ponds according to size. This method takes advantage of the
maximum growth potential of the fish as their density in the ponds can be adjusted for the size of fish as
well as for productive capacities of ponds. This enables the farmer to undertake a continuous cycle of
stocking and harvesting, increasing the output. The rearing period is also shortened and production of
the desired size of fish for market facilitated. This technique, however, can only be practised in
communes that have several pond units for large-scale production. On the other hand, the mixed-age or
size polyculture is a traditional method where fish of different species of varying sizes are reared in the
same pond from fingerling to marketable size. The stocking density and combination of species vary
from place to place. Selective harvesting is used to remove the larger individuals during the rearing
period. Subsequently, the pond is restocked with small-size fish to replace the ones removed. In this
method it is common to find a total stocking density of 15 000 fish/ha (1 000/mu).

Both techniques, multigrade and mixed-age polyculture, apply a principle of stock manipulation also
used in the monoculture of milkfish in Taiwan and in the Philippines. Here, different sizes of fish seeds
are initially stocked and the larger ones are harvested earlier in the rearing period with subsequent
stocking of small fish after each partial harvest. In effect, there are three to four croppings and stockings
carried out during a rearing cycle of 10 to 12 months.

The Rigetho Get Exell Farm located in Barangay Halayhayin, PIlilla, Rizal houses, not only tilapia
hatchery, but also other types of water animals, both artificial and organic-produced. Most of the food
supplements that they provide to their fishes are made out of duckwheat, a tiny aquatic flowering plant
that floats in large quantities on still water, often forming an apparently continuous green layer on the
surface.
A total of 1,500 tilapia breeders produce about 105,000 fingerlings which are sold to fish growers in
Batangas, Pangasinan, Bulacan and Pampanga. Other fishes can also be found in the farm, and it is said
to have been one of the most interesting fish breeding farms in the province.

Base on the statement above, Rigetho Get Exel Farm is culturing variety of fishes through artificial and
organic farming which promotes the importance of Aquaculture.

The owner of Rigetho Get exel Farm is Mr. Ernesto D.P Tolentino who has an astonishing and inspiring
story to achieve what he have now. Despite of countless obstacles and struggles in life, he never think to
give up, Tilapia had been his savior to rise, that's why he persued breeding not only tilapia , but anything
he can culture.

Culturing fish has been his ultimate passion so that he attended different seminars that tend him to be
more expert and outstanding fisherman. He had discover a lot of techniques, tactics, and methods in
culturing tilapia that he applied in his management in the farm.

He started with nothing and ended with something. Something that he can share and teach more than
knowledge, it's wisdom.

Research Design and Methodology

Research Design

This study used Biographical Method of research. Biographical method of research in education
may be conceived in many different ways; however ,typically the topic constitutes the study of a single
life. Other research methodologies are often bundled within the descriptor of biography and include life
history writing, oral history, memoir, autobiography, and life narrative (Roberts, 2002: Josselson &
lieblich,1993). Memoir is a written account of someone or something that is usually based on personal
knowledge of the study.
Sources of Data

The data were gathered through face-to-face interview with questionnaires (primary source) with
Mr. Arturo R. Redondo Jr. regarding his noteworthy memoir in handling fish cage business. The other
collected data were obtained in articles, Books and internet (secondary source).

II. Population of the Study And Sampling technique

The targeted population for this study was Mr. Arturo R. Redondo Jr. His role as participant was to
answer questionnaires provided by the researcher regarding his noteworthy memoir in handling a fish
cage business.

Purposive Sampling Technique was used for this study. Purposive sampling technique also known
as judgemental sampling, a non-probability technique that involves the conscious selection by the
researcher of certain people to include in the study. Participant are selected because they have
particular characteristics that are of interest to the researcher. For example, they have an experience or
there are certain aspects of their lives in which the researchers are interested.

Instrumentation and Validation

The instrument were used in the study was the researcher’s made questionnaires. The instruments
were validated by the Inquiry and Investigation adviser Mrs. Julia SJ Salvador.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers seek the approval of the Inquiry and Investigation adviser to conduct the
study outside the school. They prepared questionnaires to be used in the interview. Then they approach
the respondent concerning the study. The researchers interview Mr. Arturo. R. Redondo Jr. and give his
approval to answer all the questions of researchers and for documentation. Finally, all the data of the
interviews was written and analyzed to determined the noteworthy memoir of Mr. Arturo R. Redondo
Jr. in handling fish cage business.
