Early 19th Century Shirt

contained. The collar
and button closure
gave it more structure.
Since a jacket or
redingote was worn
over it, the shirt,
though next to the
body, had to have less
volume.
The sleeve bottoms and collar were still visible and were the only
areas that were decorated in the endless variations. Cuffs finished off
the sleeves and all types of neckties appeared.
