Social Media

By Keira Anderson
INT. IN LUKE’S BEDROOM – MORNING

LUKE, a 19-year-old boy, sitting in his room on his phone

looking at social media posts. LUKE wears joggers and a
sweatshirt whilst being drawn to his phone, ignoring
everything around him.

The screen fades out from black and into the camera shot. LUKE
wakes up in the morning, by his alarm going off, and
immediately checks his phone for any notifications. He sits
there, in his bed, scrolling through Instagram.

LUKE
(laughs to himself)

There is a time-lapse of LUKE sitting in his room on social

media for a while.

LUKE goes downstairs and makes breakfast for himself. Luke

watches TV for a bit, but still using his phone to check
social media, which he misses most of the tv show that he’s
watching.

EXT. BY THE RIVER - AFTERNOON

LUKE leaves his house to go for a walk but continues to look

at his phone. He walks past people that say hello to him, but
he ignores them and carries on looking down at his phone.

LUKE arrives back home from his walk by the river.

INT. IN HIS LOUNGE – LATE AFTERNOON

He sits on the sofa in his lounge and changes the channel on

the TV. His mum, in the background, receives a call but
doesn’t seem happy.

Person on the phone (On speaker)

“I’m so sorry to tell you this but unfortunately your mother
has sadly passed away.”

Mum
(cries)

LUKE
(Doesn’t acknowledge the news)
LUKE (V.O.)
“Many people seem to get glued to their phones and don’t take
their surroundings in! They miss many amazing things that they
didn’t realise or information that could mean so much to them,
but they just don’t acknowledge it because of their phone and
social media.”
