Individual Lesson Plan Estimated Instructional Time: 55 minutes

NJCCCS World Language:  All students will be able to use a world language in addition to English to
engage in meaningful conversation, to understand and interpret spoken and written language, and to
present information, concepts, and ideas, while also gaining an understanding of the perspectives of other
cultures. Through language study, they will make connections with other content areas, compare the
language and culture studied with their own, and participate in home and global communities.

OBJECTIVES

STUDENTS WILL:

 Communicate in written language and oral form applying vocabulary from the short film and using
expressions associated with their family, friends, travel, and aspirations.
 Communicate in written language and oral form in the present tense and real time to express
feelings and ideas
 Engage in conversation to practice and reinforce vocabulary.
 Discuss and analyze cultural differences and similarities that exist between Americans and people
of Spanish speaking countries.
 Respond appropriately/accurately to a series of tiered/scaffolded questions about the story.

ACTIVITIES

1. Daily Routine 5minutes: La fecha (date), El tiempo (weather), ¿Como etamos hoy? (how are we
today?), El plan de hoy (today’s plan), ¿Preguntas para la maestra? (questions for the teacher?).
2. Warm-up 10 minutes: Worksheet “Verbo Irregular: Traer” complete as many as possible in 5
minutes time. Review answers as a class.
3. Vocabulary del corto 9 minutes: introduce vocabulary from the film to propel word recognition
and enhance concept comprehension. Students will read along and be encouraged to write them
down to practice pronunciations and retain spelling.
4. Watch film 16minutes: “Viaje a Marte” (Journey to Mars)
5. Class discussion 15 minutes: Students will answer questions about the film and make connections
between their lives and those of the characters.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:

Smartboard is the primary tool required for the lesson to provide visuals along with verbal instruction.
Students will need a journal to take notes. Worksheets “Verbo Irregular: Traer”.

ASSESSMENT:

Students will be assessed as a group during worksheet review. Their language comprehension will be assessed
during class discussion by their ability to answer questions relating to the film and how well they are able to
use Spanish during conversation.
