Observations and Graphs

The nominal operating point used are mentioned below:

• The tank temperature setpoint (Tpsp)= 40 C.

• The tank inlet temperature (Tpin) = 20 C.
• The tank inlet flow (Fp) = 0.5 kg/s.
• The ambient (environmental) temperature (Te) = 20 C.
• The heating liquid inlet temperature through the jacket (Thin)= 60 C.

1) Checking the default controller settings: For this analysis we are just checking if the
controller settings used are optimized and can give proper set-point tracking , to check this
all the above mentioned nominal operating points are used and then the set point Tpsp from
40 C to 38 C after when the system had reached steady state.
From this analysis the following graphs are obtained:

Figure 1: Setpoint Temperature, product temperature at outlet (Cascade control & Single loop control) (0C) vs Time(sec).

Figure 2 Jacket Fluid Temperature( Cascade & Single loop)(0C) vs Time(sec) Figure 3: Control Signal(mass flow) Vs Time
2) Cascade control versus single-loop control:
a. Changes in the heating liquid inlet temperature, Thin: For this analysis all the above
mentioned nominal operating points are used and then the simulation is ran till
steady state is achieved and the IAE(Integral absolute value) are reset to zero and
then the Thin is decreased from 60 C to 55 C and the following graphs are obtained:

b. Changes in the environmental temperature Te: For this analysis all the above
mentioned nominal operating points are used and then the simulation is ran till
steady state is achieved and the IAE (Integral absolute value) are reset to zero and
then the Te is decreased from 20 C to 15 C and the following graphs are obtained:

c. Changes in the product liquid inlet temperature Tpin: For this analysis all the above
mentioned nominal operating points are used and then the simulation is ran till
steady state is achieved and the IAE (Integral absolute value) are reset to zero and
then the Tpin is decreased from 20 C to 15 C and the following graphs are obtained:

3) Set point tracking: For this analysis all the above mentioned nominal operating points are
used and then the simulation is ran till steady state is achieved and the IAE (Integral absolute
value) are reset to zero and then the set point i.e. the outlet product temperature Tp_sp is
decreased from 40 C to 39.5 C and the following graphs are obtained:
