1. Following are the numbers of marketable pineapple harvested from randomly selected trees in four
sections of a large pineapple plantation.

Northeast 79 48 57 82 69 79 78 92
Southeast 67 75 73 77 52 69 71 82 51
Northwes 68 75 84 73 81
t
Southwest 70 73 68 59 71 49 92 89 91 43

Use ∝=0.05 to test whether the differences among the 4 sample means can be attributed to
chance.
Solution (7 step Hypothesis)
F – statistic = 0.3968
P- value = 0.7563

CONCLUSION: 0.3968 >= 2.9467

No. Do not reject the null hypothesis.
There is no significant difference among the four sections of the large pineapple
plantations.
2. Three coffee vending machines are thought to be defective and their performances have been
recorded over a two-month period. The following data show the numbers of times these machines
have failed to operate properly during the period:

Machine 1 Machine 2 Machine 3

Brewed 22 24 16
Cappucino 26 25 22
Latte 19 21 17
Black 16 20 15

Perform a two-way ANOVA and test at ∝=0.05 .

STEP 6:

FOR COFFEE MACHINE PRODUCTS, IS 0.005362 < 0.05? YES. REJECT THE NULL HYPOTHESIS

FOR COFFEE VENDING MACHINES, IS 0.009492 < 0.05? YES. REJECT THE NULL HYPOTHESIS

STEP 7:

AT 0.05, THERE IS TRUTH IN BELIEVING THAT THE MEANS ON THE DIFFERENT COFFEE MACHINE

PRODUCTS DIFFER SIGNIFICANTLY

AT 0.05, IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT THE MEANS OF THE 3 COFFEE MACHINES PERFORMANCE
DIFFER SIGNIFICANTLY
