1. To understand the basic components of different office productivity suites available


in the market.
2. To be able to create a comparative study on the different office productivity suites.
3. To be able to utilize the features of a Word Processing software.

Discussion:

An office productivity suite also known as office software is a collection of programs for
a personal computer that is used to automate common office tasks. The packages usually
includes: word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, email, and database software. These
components are sold together and typically interface with each other.

Activity:

Research and read about the following Office Productivity Suites:


 MS Office
 Open Office
 Lotus SmartSuite
 Quick Office
Based from what you have read, create a comparative study of the four office
productivity tools.
Determine which office suite components are integrated in each office productivity
suite, list down its features as well as its advantages and disadvantages. Print out your output
and pass it on your instructor

MS Office, Open Office, Lotus Smart Suite, Quick Office are all free
suites desktop productivity applications that is used for offices and
educational purposes. MS office and quick office are well supported by
Microsoft office while in lotus smart suite does not support by Microsoft and
in open office, the Microsoft office are only for import data’s. Quick office
is an application for mobile that can view, create and edit Microsoft offices
and PDF files.

Microsoft Word
is one of the most popular software programs in the world, used by
millions of office workers, students and home users to create, read and edit
documents. Features of the program include the ability to enter and format
text, the ability to save and print documents, compatibility with older
versions of Word and other software, support for cloud or local use and
collaboration features.

ADVANTAGES:
● many applications to choose from
● offers different suites for different users
● the easy access to cloud
● compatible to multiple types of OS and even portable devices such
as tablets
● it’s the most commonly used productivity suite in this generation ●
Grammar checking tools
● Lets user create documents from anywhere and any device
DISADVANTAGES:
● Confusing interface

Open Office
is an open, feature-rich multi-platform office productivity suite. The
user interface and the functionality are very similar to other products in the
market like Microsoft Office or Lotus SmartSuite, but compared to these
commercial products OpenOffice.org is absolutely free.

ADVANTAGES
●free
● Robust tools for web designers who write in HTML.
● Bugs can be addressed faster because it is an open source.
● Offers a single interface that allows the user to access the entire
suite
DISADVANTAGES
● Open source, anyone can create malicious bugs and other security
codes.

Lotus SmartSuite
A suite of applications for Windows from IBM Lotus that includes the
1-2-3 spreadsheet, Word Pro word processor, Freelance Graphics, Approach
database and Organizer PIM. Also included is a common toolbar for
launching the applications and selecting predefined macros that provide
tighter integration between the applications. Lotus Organizer and 1-2-3 are
also available as stand-alone products.

Quick Office
Quick office used to be the most useful mobile office app you
could download. Quick office offered Microsoft Office and Excel
compatibility for Palm OS, HP webOS, Symbian, Blackberry, Android, iOS,
and just about every other mobile platform released since the original Palm
Pilot PDA. Quick office allowed mobile users to open, read, and edit
Microsoft Office and PDF files. It was already compatible with Google Docs
and could sync with services like Dropbox, Sugar Sync, and Evernote.

● Free to all android users
● Can handle MS office suites like MS word, excel, and PowerPoint
seamlessly
● It can let u view but not create pdf files
DISADVANTAGES
● It lose track of the changes
● It does not support transitions
