This was basically a movement, started by Haji Shariatullah who observed that Muslims from Bengal are losing their reputation in the region as now the ruling power British preferred working with the Zamindars (owners of expanded land) who were mainly Hindu’s not only this Muslims were struggling to find proper educational opportunities. Observing this, Haji Shariatullah thought of reminding Muslims of the religious obligations (Faraiz), he also started it to remove Hindu practices that had made its way into Islamic society. Not only this, he also worked for peasants rights, these Haji Shariatullah’s points of interest later became the movement’s main motives. However this rising force worried British and Hindu so they exiled Haji Shariatullah to Nawabganj, Dhaka district, where he died in 1840. His son, Mohsin-ud- din followed his father’s footsteps and continued to work on the Movement’s main motives, he was clever and so he divided Bengal in circles each circle had a Khalifa who was responsible for the area’s peace.
