ABSTRACT

The mastery of grade VIIB English vocbulary is still low. This is


because students have not been able to read English vocabulary, so students
need a learning aid so that the mastery of English vocabulary can be
increased. This study aims to describe the use of image media to improve the
mastery of English vocabulary in class VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Lamboya.
This research is a kind of classroom action research with the research
subjects of class VIIB students of SMP Negeri 3 Lamboya with a total of 32
students. The design of this study uses an iquiry learning model that is
carried out in two cycles. Each cycle has an action component that consists of
planning, action and observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques
using observation, tests, and field notes sheets. Question, and field notes

Qualitative the results showed that the use of image media can
improve students mastery of English vocabulary. Increased mastery of
students English vocabulary can be seen from an increase in the aspect of
interpreting the vocabulary the vocabulary from before taking action to the
second cycle of 0,29 increasing aspects of reading the vocabulary from before
taking action to the second cycle of 0,82, increasing aspects of reciting
vocabulary from writing vocabulary from before action is taken until the
second cycle 0,76 an increase in the aspect of using vocabulary in learning
from before the action is taken until the second cycle of 0,15 and the average
value obtained before the action is 66.1 with a percentage of completeness of
51.52%, after the cycle II action, the average score of students becomes
88.03 with a percentage of completeness of 90.9% and an increase in teacher
activity during the learning process. before action is taken until the second
cycle of 0.94 an increase in aspects.

ABSTRAK

Penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris kelas VII SMP Negeri 3 Lamboya


masih rendah. Hal ini dikarenakan siswa belum dapat membaca kosakata
bahasa Inggris, sehingga siswa membutuhkan suatu alat bantu pembelajaran
agar penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris dapat meningkat. Penelitian ini
bertujuan mendeskripsikan penggunaan media gambar untuk meningkatkan
penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 3
Lamboya . Penelitian ini termasuk jenis penelitian tindakan kelas (classroom
action research) dengan subyek penelitian siswa kelas VIIB SMP Negeri 3
Lamboya yang berjumlah 32 siswa. Desain penelitian ini menggunakan
model pembelajaran inkuiri dan target yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus.
Setiap siklus memiliki komponen tindakan yang terdiri dari perencanaan,
perlakuan tindakan dan pengamatan, serta refleksi

catatan lapangan. Instrumen pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan
lembar observasi, soal, dan lembar catatan lapangan. Analisis data penelitian
menggunakan analisis data dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan
bahwa penggunaan media gambar dapat meningkatkan penguasaan
kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa. Peningkatan penguasaan kosakata bahasa
Inggris siswa dapat dilihat dari peningkatan aspek mengartikan kosakata
dari sebelum dilakukan tindakan sampai siklus II sebesar 0,29, peningkatan
aspek membaca kosakata dari sebelum dilakukan tindakan sampai siklus II
sebesar 0,82, peningkatan aspek melafalkan kosakata dari sebelum dilakukan
tindakan sampai siklus II sebesar 0,94, peningkatan aspek menulis kosakata
dari sebelum dilakukan tindakan sampai siklus II sebesar 0,76, peningkatan
aspek menggunakan kosakata dalam pembelajaran dari sebelum dilakukan
tindakan sampai siklus II sebesar 0,15 dan nilai rata-rata yang diperoleh
sebelum dilakukan tindakan yaitu 66,1 dengan persentase ketuntasan
sebesar 51,52%, setelah dilakukan tindakan siklus II nilai rata-rata siswa
menjadi 88,03 dengan persentase ketuntasan sebesar 90,9% serta
peningkatan aktivitas guru dan aktivitas siswa selama proses pembelajaran
