Methodology

The perforating machine is designed with mechanical arrangement, controlling the movements
using the Geneva mechanism. The moving mechanism is attached to the punching spindle. So we
can move the shaft anywhere within the machine area. The moving mechanism is also controlled
using the Geneva mechanism.

In this punching machine using the Geneva mechanism consists of two parts. One is the
automatic punching mechanism and the second section is the conversion of the rotary motion
into the linear exchange movement of the punching tool. The first section consists of a Geneva
wheel disk with a column on one end, and the other end is connected to a chain sprocket. This
Geneva wheel shaft is supported on two Plummer block bearings.

Working principle:

When the switch is on the engine, the crank wheel rotates. Then the punching slide with the
punching tool moved up and down and made a punch on the paper tape. The crank wheel face
has a pin that touches the hole in the Geneva wheel and also spins the wheel. Because of the
rotation or indexing of the Geneva wheel, the paper tape feed rollers are rotated by the chain
drive mechanism and therefore the paper tape is fed automatically.
