METERS, GAUGES AND THERMOMETERS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes flow meters, pressure gauges and pressure gauge
taps, thermometers and thermometer wells, static pressure and filter
gauges.
1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Comply with provisions of Division 01.
B. Submit with shop drawings list, which indicates use, operating range, total
range and location.

2.2 PRESSURE GAUGES
A. 114mm diameter in metal case, glycerine filled phosphor bronze bourdon
tube, rotary brass movement, brass socket and 1 percent mid-scale
accuracy with front recalibration adjustment, black figures on white
background. Provide brass needle or gate valve.

2.3 PRESSURE GAUGE TAPS
A. Provide brass needle or gate valve.
2.4 PRESSURE/TEMPERATURE TEST PLUGS
A. Provide pressure or temperature test plugs. Taps shall be Pete’s Plug,
15mm NPT, brass with Nordel core, Model 710. In addition, the Contractor
shall supply the Employer with six 125mm stem pocked testing
thermometers.
2.5 GREYWATER FLOW METERS
A. Materials:
1. Sensor housing: powder-coated die-cast aluminum
2. Measuring tube: stainless steel with polyurethane liner.
3. Flange: Class 150 ANSI B16.5 CS A105
B. Design Requirements:
1. Sensor and Transmitter: NEMA 4X certified.
2. Compact version (transmitter and sensor form a mechanical unit).
3. Calibration: 3-Point. 0.5%
4. Sensor:
a. Electromagnetic flow measurement
b. Flanged connections
c. Bi-directional flow measurement capability
d. No pressure loss through sensor
e. Maximum flow measurement: 167 IGPM
f. Maximum fluid velocity: +80°C
g. Maximum fluid temperature: +50°C
h. Maximum process pressure: 40 bar
5. Measuring Tube:
a. Internal diameter: 79mm

2.6 STEM TYPE THERMOMETERS

A. 229mm scale adjustable angle, 0.5 degrees C scale division, mercury-free
lens, front tube, cast aluminum case, brass separable socket or flange with
perforated stem, and 80mm extension necks on insulated piping.
B. Thermometers shall be installed as shown on the Drawings. Thermometer
wells only shall be installed in like manner. All thermometer wells shall be
constructed of brass for copper pipes and stainless steel for steel pipes.
Where installed in insulated piping shall have at least 80mm lagging
extension. Pressure temperature ratings of each well shall be suitable for
the system in which it is installed. All wells shall be filled with silicon and be
complete with caps and chains. Thermometers and thermometer wells shall
have the following insertion lengths:
1. Located in Horizontal Piping and Vertical Piping below 1.8 meters:
a. 65mm, 100mm and 125mm Pipe
b. 125mm, 150mm and 200mm Pipe
2. Locate in Vertical Piping above 1.8meters:
a. 125mm, 80mm, 100mm & 150mm Pipe
b. 200mm, 200mm Pipe and above
C. Scale ranges may be slightly greater than shown to meet manufacturers
standard. Require ranges in degrees Celsius.
1. Chilled Water -18 – 40 deg C
2. Heat Recovery -18 – 40 deg C
3. Heating Water 0 –115 deg C
2.7 WATER FLOW METER
A. Refer to Division 25

PART 3 - EXECTION

3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Install flow meters according to manufacturer's installation instructions.
Allow minimum 10 pipe diameters upstream of metering station and 5 pipe
diameters downstream.
B. Provide 1 pressure gauge per pump installing taps before strainers and on
suction and discharge of pump. Pipe to gauge.
C. Enlarge pipes smaller than 80mm for installation of thermometer wells.
D. Apply thermal grease in thermowells prior to installation of thermometers.
E. Include supports for meters, gauges, and thermometers as needed.
3.2 APPLICATION
A. Flow Metering Stations:
1. Chilled water, heat recovery and hot water systems where shown and as
required
B. Pressure Gauges:
1. Pumps
2. Expansion tanks
3. Boilers inlet and outlet
4. Heat Exchangers
