PLUMBING FIXTURES
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Section Includes:

1.2 DEFINITIONS
A. Fitting : Device that controls the flow of water into or out of the plumbing
fixture. Fittings specified in this Section include supplies and stops,
faucets and spouts, shower heads and tub spouts, drains and tailpieces,
and traps and waste pipes. Piping and general-duty valves are included
where indicated.
B. Faucet : Same as tap.
1.4 SUBMITTALS
A. Product data and installation instructions:
1. For each type of plumbing fixture indicated. Include selected fixture
and trim, fittings, accessories, appliances, appurtenances, equipment,
and supports. Indicate materials and finishes, dimensions,
construction details, architectural details and flow-control rates.
2. Color selection charts for Employer’s color selection.
B. Shop Drawings:
1. Fabrication and/or layout drawings:
a. Layout plan(s) showing dimensions, elevations, etc.
b. Details showing connections, installation, rough-in locations, etc.
2. Detail drawing showing interface with other works.
C. Product technical data, for each type of plumbing fixture indicated,
including:

2.1 GENERAL
A. Visible parts of fixture brass and accessories shall be chrome plated.
Chrome plated white metal will not be acceptable.
B. Traps used in acid resistant piping systems shall be made of the same
material as specified for the piping.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Verify fixtures are free from flaws and blemishes with clear, smooth,
bright finished surfaces.
B. Examine roughing-in of water supply and sanitary drainage and vent
piping systems to verify actual locations of piping connections before
plumbing fixture installation
C. Examine cabinets, counters, floors, and walls for suitable conditions
where fixtures will be installed.
D. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been
corrected.
E. Commencement of installation shall constitute acceptance of conditions
3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Install each fixture with appropriate trap to suit installation conditions.
1. Traps and nuts exposed to view and in casework shall be chrome-
plated cast brass with cleanout.
2. Traps and nuts concealed in water coolers shall be cast brass with
cleanout.
3. Provide cast iron traps where concealed in wall construction, ceiling
spaces or below floors.
4. All traps shall be readily removable for servicing.

B. Waste extensions exposed to view and in casework, running from the
trap to the finished architectural surface, shall be manufacturer as noted,
chrome-plated brass.
C. Supplies to fixtures shall be chrome-plated, rigid or flexible brass, with
appropriate reducers and escutcheons.
1. Supplies serving fixture supply trim not having integral stops shall be
provided with loose key stops.
2. Supplies and stops shall be manufacturer as noted
D. Support wall-hung lavatories, urinals, electric water coolers, water closets
and special fixtures with commercial grade chair carriers especially
selected to suit installation requirements and available wall thickness or
chase spaces. Carriers may be double where applicable.
E. Mount wall-hung fixtures at proper heights above finished floor for regular
use and use by the handicapped as designated on drawings.
F. Fasten floor-mounted water closets to floor flange with brass bolts, nuts
and washers. Provide bolt caps.
G. Provide hose-type faucets and connections with vacuum breakers.
H. After installation and prior to final acceptance, remove fixture labels,
thoroughly clean fixtures with mild detergent and water solution, rinse
with clean water, and wipe dry. Refer to Division 01 for Cleaning and
Division 22 and 23 for Mechanical Systems Commissioning
Requirements.
I. Supply piping dropping through ceiling to shower shall be supported
above ceiling to prevent movement in any direction.
J. Provide insulation kits as manufactured by suitable supplier for free
standing lavatories drain piping. Omit insulation at lavatories provided
with pipe shroud as works of others sections.
K. Do not install any plumbing components that will provide a cross
connection between potable and non-potable or drainage systems.
L. Fixtures:
1. Install fixtures at locations indicated on Drawings and in compliance
with local codes.
2. Connect plumbing supply, drain and vent line sizes as shown on
Drawings.
3. Set proper grounds to form secure base for each fixture and rigid
setting.
4. Install fixtures except water closets with water supply above rim and
with code approved backflow preventers.
5. Seal fixture joints abutting walls and floors with sealant per Division 07
Section Interior Joint Sealants.
6. Connect exposed traps and supply pipes for fixtures and equipment to
rough piping systems at wall, unless otherwise specified.
7. Install emergency fixtures in accordance with ANSI Z358.1.
3.4 ADJUSTING
A. Operate and adjust taps and controls. Replace damaged and
malfunctioning fixtures, fittings, and controls.
B. Operate and adjust disposers, hot-water dispensers. Replace damaged
and malfunctioning units.
C. Adjust water pressure at faucets to produce proper flow and stream.
D. Replace washers and seals of leaking and dripping faucets and stops.
E. Install fresh batteries in sensor-operated mechanisms.
3.5 CLEANING
A. Clean fixtures, faucets, and other fittings with manufacturers'
recommended cleaning methods and materials. Do the following:
1. Remove faucet spouts and strainers, remove sediment and debris,
and reinstall strainers and spouts.
2. Remove sediment and debris from drains.
B. After completing installation of exposed, factory-finished fixtures, faucets,
and fittings, inspect exposed finishes and repair damaged finishes.
C. Clean out tanks and cisterns. Flush out pipework, including overflows,
with fresh water on completion. Use high pressure water jet to remove
blockage.
3.6 PROTECTION
A. Provide protective covering for installed fixtures and fittings.
B. Protect fixtures against use and damage during construction.
