Purpose of this statement

This document has been identified as a requirement during Pre Application discussions with
Highway representatives. Required details to include:
• Details of measures to prevent pedestrian/vehicle conflict within the school grounds;
• Car parking for site personnel/operatives;
• Measures to prevent the deposition of deleterious material on the public highway.

Construction Traffic Management

Access to the site for construction traffic will be via the existing vehicle entrance to the school site
off Violet Way. Construction traffic will not be permitted to obstruct the highway during the works,
and will be required to be stored within the boundary of the land under the control of Violet Way
Academy.

There will be no requirement for temporary access roads / protection of existing grassed spaces to
allow work to be undertaken.

Vehicle movement on the site will be restricted during times of peak pedestrian activity times.
These are typically 08:30-09:30 and 14:45-15:45 on school properties, but will be clarified formally
with property representatives during risk assessment / hazard exchanges processes with the
appointed contractor. Vehicles will not be permitted to leave / enter the site / site compound during
these times. A banksman will be required to assist with vehicle movement to / from site outside of
these times.

All site operatives / visitors will be required to wear high visibility vests (along with other relevant
PPE) at all times when accessing the site.

Reversing alarms on vehicles are a necessity for the safe operation of the site. These will be no
permission granted under any circumstances for omitting use of reversing alarms on site, due to
the potential for serious / fatal injuries.

A Temporary Heras Fence perimeter to the work area will be installed to protect by the workforce
and other users of the site. Any vehicle movement outside of this compound would require
assistance of a banksman due to the high risk of pedestrian movement (even outside of restricted
times).

Visitor / Staff Parking Facilities

The proposed works will consist of a seamless two phase project.

The first phase of the development will be the construction of the MUGA. This will leave the
existing overflow parking area for staff and visitors to the site. Violet Way Academy will be advising
for staff to travel to work by foot wherever possible to minimise congestion on site during the
period of work.

The second phase of the project will be to re-surface and mark out the existing overflow car park.
This will leave the remaining parking area close to the school for staff and visitors for the short
period required for this part of the works (anticipated 4-5days). Violet Way Academy will be
advising for staff to travel to work by foot wherever possible to minimise congestion on site during
the period of work.

Unloading / loading of plant / machinery

Plant / machinery will be delivered to site on a daily basis. Constriction vehicles are anticipated to
be relatively small due to the site being restricted.

Pedestrian Traffic Management

It is anticipated that there will be peak times for pedestrian activity on site. These are typically
08:30-09:30 and 14:45-15:45 on school properties, but will be clarified formally with property
representatives during risk assessment / hazard exchanges processes with the appointed
contractor.

The existing pedestrian routes to the building entrance will be maintained by installation of
temporary Heras Style fence (which will form the site compound / work area).

Measures to minimise depositing deleterious material on the public highway.

Minimising dust

Dependant on ground / weather conditions during the construction period, there may be a need for
wetting of the work are / access road to minimise airborne dust. The appointed Principal
Contractor will be responsible for ensuring facilities area available for wetting work areas / access
roads, should it be necessary.

Spoil depositing on highway

Where necessary, the contractor will be tasked with jet washing wheels of construction traffic
before leaving site to minimise spoil being deposited on the highway. The contractor will also be
required to provide a road sweep operation on a weekly basis to the site entrance / any
significantly affected areas should this be required.
