Club D2S – Drive Smart Drive Safe, Doori Hai Zaroori Road Safety Campaign

Drive Smart Drive Safe – better known as Club D2S is a Non-Government Organization
(NGO) headed by Mr Rama Shankar Pandey, Managing Director – Hella India ltd. Is based
out of the capital city of India.

The NGO aims to educate people on road safety and the impact on reducing road accidents
and deaths due to the same on Indian roads. The presence of D2S is intended to reduce the
occurrence of conditions that intensify the fatalities on roads like accidents due to poor
visibility and less use of dip beam lights, vehicles not being seen, drivers’ negligence and
fatigue, negligence of safety norms, drunken driving, speeding, and actions like dangerous
overtaking, lane cutting etc.

Club D2S is supported by FICCI, ACMA, SIAM, CII-Yi , FADA, AIAWA, ASDC, AIMA, NGO Arrive
safe, Save Life Foundation, WRI, Raahgiri day , Center for Road Safety, Jaipur AWC, RSO-
Gurgaon, Faridabad, Hella, WABCO & Brakes India, Bharat Scouts & Guide, NCC, CRPF, RAF,
ITBP, BSF, CISF NSS,  Sports Authority of India, NDRF, Rotary Clubs to name a few.

In the past D2S has created a huge impact in the society with their events like “One Crore
Steps” which was the longest and the largest walkathon accumulating in excess of 135 Crore
steps from Kanyakumari to Kashmir in year 2018, “One Crore Haath” which lead people to
form human chains across more than 100 locations throughout the country to make the
vehicle owners aware of following road safety norms, “India Against Road Crash –
IARC2020” which impacted the nation by organizing seminars and education drives on
spreading awareness on road safety and make people more responsible to traffic sense.

In continuation, D2S has come up with another impactful campaign “Doori Hai Zaroori”
aimed at enforcing behavioural change in existing and future vehicle drivers of the country.

With the on-going pandemic it is thought provoking how the whole country has joined
hands in fighting COVID-19 be it with social distancing, staying at home for months, timely
hand sanitization or wearing a mask. Upon detailed analysis of the behaviour we came to
know that it is the fear of death that lead people to such actions for the safety of their life
and their loved ones, but when we contrast this with the road accidents – people turn blind
eye to the same.

We need to understand that when we have just 9 million cases from COVID-19 in India,
there is “1 death every 4 minutes” and “1 accident every minute” in the country, the
extrapolation far outweighs the count of fatalities from COVID-19 not only in India but on a
worldwide scale. Why is it that we are so afraid of the pandemic and not of the road
accidents happening all around? The reason is the accidents are distributed throughout the
nation and are never brought up to the news headlines. We need to understand the gravity
of this man-made disaster and need to act quickly.
“Doori Hai Zaroori” is aimed at imparting micro-training to a million citizens of India to
educate them of the huge problem and bring about a change in the society because “Jab
hum badlenge, tab Desh badlega”. The training talks about traffic distancing and the
innovative ways in which one can keep themselves safe and the others on the road. It also
helps develop an understanding of the traffic norms and why they should be adhered to on
a regular basis just like maintaining social distancing and wearing a mask in COVID. The
campaign stands strong with more than 500 road safety trainers, +20,000 trained volunteers
and in excess of 160 training sessions already imparted.

Some leading organizations who have joined hands with “Doori Hai Zaroori” are Ambuja
Cements Ltd., Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, Bajaj Auto Services, Bosch, Chandigarh
University, Cairn India Ltd., Hero MotoCorp Ltd., JCB India Ltd., Tech Mahindra and Tata
Autocomp Systems Ltd.

“You must be the Change, You wish to see in the World”, it’s time we join hands and try to
embrace the above quote by Mahatma Gandhi. Let’s bring about a change that has never
been seen before, let’s make our roads safer, lets safe the future of our country by
practicing traffic distancing and educating our loved ones. Come, join us in our campaign
“Doori Hai Zaroori” by logging into our website - www.doorihaizaroori.com and leave an
impact on the society for a better future.
