Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of grammatical structures of English to be able to
communicate effectively in oral and written forms, demonstrates understanding of narrative and
informational texts for appreciation of literacy-related activity/tasks; demonstrates understanding of
useful strategies for purposeful literacy learning.
Performance Standard
The learner shows proficiency in constructing grammatically correct sentences in varied theme-based
oral and written activities; makes personal journals, diaries, portfolios and logos, etc. as expression of
enthusiasm in reading books for both pleasure and learning, uses strategies independently in
accomplishing literacy-related tasks.

At the end of this lesson, the students will able to:
a. Identify the distinguishing feature of the story “Pishi Caught in a Storm” by Mala Kumar and
Manisha Chaudhry.
b. Identify and use action words and linking verbs in simple sentences.
c. Show awareness and appreciation of underwater life.

The students will have a review about the frequent errors on the 2nd Long Test in English.
Activity / Motivation
UNLOCKING OF DIFFICULTIES
 The students will read the following words and their descriptions.
 Read each sentence. Draw a line from the underlined word to its meaning found in the
second sentence.
COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS
 The students will answer the following questions.
1. Have you seen a manta ray?
2. What other marine animals do you know?
 The teacher will ask some volunteer to read the story “Pishi Caught in a Storm” by Mala
Kumar and Manisha Chaudhry. This will be followed by some questions.

A. Analysis
 The teacher will have a
discussion about Action words
and linking verbs.
B. Abstraction/Generalization
The students will differentiate the action verb to linking verb using a Venn diagram.

C. Assessment/Transfer
The students will answer the following:
Let’s Practice 1: Underline the verb/s in each sentence.
Let’s Practice 2: Fill in the blank with the correct verb to complete each sentence. Choose
from the verbs in the box.
Let’s Practice 1: Write the correct linking verb on the blank to complete each sentence.
