SOFTWARE FOR EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS

System Software – controls a computer’s internal functioning, chiefly through an operating system, and also control such peripherals
as monitors, printers, and storage devices.
Operating System is one type of system software, that manages computer hardware and software resources.
Different Types of Operating System
1. Stand Alone Operating System
Is a complete operating system that works on desktop, notebook computer or mobile computing devices.
Ex. Windows and Mac OS X
2. Embedded Operating System
This kind of operating system resides in an internal chip rather than a hard drive.
Is a specialized operating system designed to perform specific task for a device that is not a computer.
Ex. Apple’s iOS, Google Android and Blackberry OS.
3. Emerging Operating System
The emerging operating system like Google’s Chrome OS has to potential to revolutionize computing.
Application Software- allow user to perform specific task like writing documents, making project presentations, video recording and
many others.

Types of Software Application Used in School
Instructional Software – program designed specifically to deliver instruction or aid with the delivery of instruction, instructional

Drill and Practice software- Provide exercises in which students work on items one at a time and receive feedback on their

Productivity Software- Designed to help teachers and students in creating their reports, computing of grades, communicating,
developing of materials and keeping of records effectively and efficiently. Productivity software includes applications such as word
processing, electronic spread sheet, presentation graphics, graphics and multimedia software, database, personal information
management and software suites.
