3.0 – SAFETY PROCEDURE IN WORKSHOP
EACH USER MUST USE THE APPROPRIATE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)
WHEN USING THE MACHINE / EQUIPMENT such as : ( Safety Boots , Gloves , Hand
Shield , Apron and other necessary personal protective equipment )
ENSURE ALL THE MACHINE / EQUIPMENT ARE IN A GOOD CONDITION AND SAFE
BEFORE USE
IF HAD AN ACCIDENT , QUICKLY PRESS THE SAFETY BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE FLOW
OF ELECTRICITY
MAKE SURE THE WORKSHOP IS FREE OF ALL THE IMPURITIES AND FREE OF ALL
OBSTACLES
5|Page
LEAVING THE LAB / WORKSHOP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO THE GATHERING PLACE IF
THE EMERGENCY OR FIRE ALARM WARNING IS RINGING
WELDING MACHINE
Welding machines take the electrical
current from a high voltage power
source and convert it into a usable
arc of energy to fuse two materials
together
ELECTRODE HOLDER
The electrode holder connects to the
welding cable and conducts the
welding current to the electrode. The
insulated handle is used to guide the
electrode over the weld joint and
feed the electrode into the weld
puddle as it is consumed
ELECTRODE
Used to conduct current through a
workpiece to fuse pieces together.
Depending upon the process, the
electrode is either consumable,in the
case of gas metal arc welding or
6|Page
shielded metal arc welding, or non-
consumable,such as in gas tungsten
arc welding
EARTH CLAMPS
Connects the metal with power
supply from welding machine and to
avoid from electric shock
CHIPPING HAMMER
A chipping hammer is a tool used to
remove welding slag from a weld
and welding spatter from along side
welds.Used by carefully swinging
and hitting the weld to shatter the
slag
WIRE BRUSH
To clean and clear the metals chips
after welding in the metal surfaces
7|Page
PLIER
Used to carry hot metal plate and
adjust the metal plate
HAND SHIELD
Protect the eyes, face and neck from
flash,burn,ultraviolet
light,sparks,infrared light,and
heat.Most commonly used with arc
welding processes such as shielded
metal arc welding,gas tungsten arc
welding and gas metal arc welding
SAFETY GLOVES
To cover hands from burn. These
gloves allow digit articulation while
protecting the operator from
electrical shock,extreme heat and
ultraviolet and infrared radiation and
also provide abrasion resistance and
enhanced grip
8|Page
SAFETY APRON
Protects you and your clothing from
hot metal and slag that is generated
while welding,grinding or using a
cutting torch
SAFETY BOOTS
To protect your feets from
injuries.It’s also protect your feet
from burn or scalded and avoid your
feets from metal sparks

5.0 – WORKING PROCEDURES
o Gather all the equipments which needed to weld
o Clean the metal if there’s any rust or dirt on the metal plate
o Place the electrode at the electrode holder and turn on the welding machine
o Set up the work-piece with 90° plate to perfectly weld the metal plate at 90° to make
corner joint
o Tack – weld at both the corner of the metal plate
o Once welding done , we have to remove the slag using chipping hammer
o Remove the excess dirt by using wire brush and make it shine

6.0 – CONCLUSION
As conclusion, the objective can achievable to do the practical welding. The student must
have skill to do the welding, used the knowledge and understanding of the theories, and also
welding techniques are applied in the practical welding. The practical task have been
complete and the report will accomplished to prove the student can be do the practical task of
Arc Welding.
