1.2 Transponder Line Interfaces

1.2.1 CHM-1 and CHM-2 with 200G CFP2 ACO

CHM1 and CHM2 can support two coherent lines with 100G CP-QPSK, 150G 8QAM and
200G 16QAM formats. They use 200G CFP2-ACO line interfaces pluggables.

 CHM-1/2: line I/F: 2xCP-QPSK/ 2x8QAM/ 2x16QAM

 CHM-1/2: 100G client I/F: 4 x QSFP28 client
 CHM-2: 10/40G client I/F: 10 x QSFP+ client

Please see here the parameters of the CHM-1 and CHM2-. (DSP in CHM-x defines
possible modulation formats, FEC, CD and PMD limits. CFP2-ACO pluggable creates
optical wavelength and defines TX and RX power limits, wavelength configurability etc.) :

1.4 Transponder Latency Time

Transponder cards are effecting small signals latency times due to signal processing
delays caused by signal mapping and de-mapping functions and forward error correction
(FEC / SFEC) calculation schemes.

The following tables give an overview of the respective latency times: The traffic goes from
the client side to the line side, is doing a loop and goes back from the line side to the client
side. This means “total latency”.

Note that transmission delay in larger DWDM networks is mainly caused by the
transmission fibers and the used dispersion compensation fibers, only a minor contribution
is usually caused by the signal processing on the transponders cards.

CHM2 and CHM1G may use in addition encryption of the ODUx in transmission. Units
support two different encryption types, CTR and GMC. This encryption will cause
additional delay. ODU4 level encryption with CTR will cause 0.4 µs (400ns) extra latency
and ODU4 level GMC will have 3.2 µs extra delay. This latency must be added over
values in table below.
