NARRATIVE REPORT

Philippines is considered one of the riches country in terms of agriculture, both flora and
fauna. It is mostly important because it is the Filipinos’ main employment and everyone engage
in it, even the young ones. The main agricultural crops in the Philippines are rice, corn, coconut,
sugarcane, coffee, bananas, mangoes, pineapple, tobacco, abaca, and many other crops. Through
agriculture, most Filipinos sustain their daily needs and necessities in their everyday life because
they can get food and at the same time, earn money for living. Knowing that Philippines is an
agricultural country, the impact of this terms of unemployment could be very big because it can
help many Filipino worker who are having a hard time to have a work since there are many jobs
in the sector of agriculture can be offered. Agriculture is the backbone of the country for the
reason that it impacts our lives. Food and fiber products play a significant part in each part of our
lives and without them, we would starve to death. Hence, it became one of the social problem
and issue here in the Philippine when the colonizers came in the country. Land reform can be an
important issue since almost all of the countries in Asia regarding in the development of their
national policies, laws and regulations. The issues in regard to the implementation of land reform
here covers interlinked to forest, urban lands, land administration and management, government
programs and most importantly, agriculture. Also, the peasantry within our country is actually
weak because it lacks the durability to fight for their rights when confronted with the landlords’
economic and political advantages. Peasant mobilization is an essential condition not limited to
the redistribution of protection under the law in the land, there is a greater opportunity for the
implementation of land reform to be successful but this can only be achieved if there is an equal
attention given to landlords and the peasants.
The group is asked to identify the common problems and issues in the implementation of
land reforms from Spanish times up to present upon reading the topic, “Social, Political,
Economic and Cultural Issues in the Philippines”. After that, we are also asked to formulate
questions to gather information from their own perceptions regarding the issue. The questions
that we asked to our interviewees’ are if the issue of the land conflict of the indigenous people
here in the country exists even up to this time and if they have the rights to help them, what
reforms will they conduct to address the problem. The group also asked them what will be the
life of Filipinos in the land of Archipelago if they are free from their conqueror and how is the
event from the past affect the way of living of Filipinos nowadays. We also asked them, from
their own opinion if the laws that are enforced for Filipino farmers is helpful for them, if yes then
in what way. The group conducted the interview virtually.
According to Mrs. Lilia Loreto Rey, the issue of the land conflict of the indigenous
people here in the country exists even up to this time. She stated that if she has the right to help
them, she will declare all the lands of the indigenous people reserve for them to feel free to live,
to work, to plant, to harvest and enjoy the fruits of their labors in the land because from the very
start of everyone’s lives, no one owns the land and the lands are beyond the commerce of man.
She also said that if Filipinos are free from their conqueror, she thinks that they will enjoy their
living and also they will be free to do what they want to do. She also added that no one will be
living in fear anymore and also maybe this country will be at peace.

Throughout the years, they still have been looking for an answer in aiming the progress and
development of agriculture.
