Self Assessment Questions(SAQ)/Activity 6.1

A Sustainable Philippines

Instructions: Create a plan of sustainable development for the Philippines featuring the country’s

strength, weakness , opportunities, and threats. Keep in mind the following aspects that must be
considered in creating the plan.

1. Economic Status of the Philippines

Every country in the currently facing a very hard time in improving the economic in each
country. The Covid-19 has cause a lot. It increases the poverty and rapidly increasing number of
people who feel hunger and lost there jobs because many company had been closed many
stablishment stop operation because of the pandemic. Here in the Philippines we are struggling
so much. We are struggling in terms of food, jobs, and facing or fighting this pandemic. Our
economic is struggling and we are currently facing the crisis. We don’t really have the normal
way of living. The only way for us to improve everything we should first end and successfully
fight this pandemic with the proper strategy and a proper government.

2. Environmental Issues and Challenges

The Philippines is also suffers major human-caused environmental degradation aggravated by
high annual population growth rate , including loss of agricultural lands ,deforestation, soil
erosion, air and water pollution, improper disposal of solid , toxic wastes, and loss of coral
reefs. High annual population growth rate in the Philippines is increasing each year . The
number of teenage pregnancy is also increasing that also one of the reason why our population
is increasing. Also each family don’t have a Family planning. Loss of agricultural lands this time
the law and the government is the one to blame on. The senate representative of this sector
are the one who builds building and subdivisions and the agricultural land. Also they don’t have
this proper law that will protect the agricultural land of the Philippines. If only the government
will help the farmers and give a fair treatment and give their rights, the Philippines food
production won’t be short and can supply the whole country we don’t need to buy agricultural
products outside of our country. Deforestation , in order to build building, infrastructure and
subdivisions and establishment they need flatten the land and cut trees. This cause of a great
impact not just in the environment but also to us humans. It causes us flood and every time
typhoon come’s many houses had been flooded and many people lost life. Soil erosion is also
one of the common problems that we always face specially in rainy season. Here in
Cantanduanes soil erosion affect us in terms of transportation many blocked road and “ tilis”
 site is always present . Air and water pollution. This problem is always present and can be seen
in Metro Manila. Specially in Pasay and Sta. Mesa . In Pasay particularly Baclaran and MOA you
can see how polluted this city. From the waste like plastic and in the sea side of MOA you can
see how polluted the Manila Bay is . The color of the water turned black and due to the
building, factories and fast food chain their waste directly go to the ocean. Improper waste
disposal here in the Philippines we don’t really practice the proper way of waste disposal.
People throw their waste on the roads even they saw a trash can, aside from that we don’t
practice the 3R which is very important. In country like South Korea they imposed everyone and
every home that they should segregate their waste properly like segregating plastic from those
metal and decomposing one. We should adapt this nature so that we can help our environment
and also improve our community. Toxic waste business man where busy making money while
our environment the one who’s been affected. Toxic waste from the factories and fast food
chain poisoned the ocean and many marine animals. Few years ago we can see the affect of this
toxic waste in Boracay. Boracay is one of the best and number tourist spot of the Philippines.
Due to the increasing number of tourist visiting the island many business establishments had
been open and the worse part of that is that there waste is directly through the Boracay beach.
The government closed down the island to recovered but this thing, should leave a lesson to us
the we don’t need to wait for the worst to come we should prevent it before we give it a chance
to happen. China

3. Political Stability
Political Stability. I had to question myself and recall everything if the Philippines had a time that
we have a Political that is stable. Like Doctor Rizal once said “ kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan”
how can we kabataan do that if our government is not stable enough to produce this “
kabataang ang pag-asa ng bayan”? If the Kabataan’s future will in those Politcal people’s had?
Few weeks ago a police came to our barangay and impose this KKDAT group for youth imposed
by the government. The goal and objective / purpose of the group is very good it make’s
kabataan more aware and productive. But their way of building a good citizen that should not
point the negative side of the Politics is the one the I had to question. How can me as a part of
the Philippine’s as one of the citizen of the Philippines should not point out their “ kapalpakan”
in handling our country. Specially that we are facing the pandemic. In this scenario you can
really how ignorant and not stable our Politics . Many politician smuggled and corrupt the
money of the nation. Even the PhilHealth which we need specially that the pandemic killed
many lives. They even had the gut’s to corrupt the 15billion fund and the funny thing is the
response of the government in this issue. They just let it slide like nothing happen. They also
imposed a proper and good manner’s in handling the pandemic. Imagine imposing rules and
laws about the pandemic but you are the one who’s breaking it without going to the jail, while
those people who don’t have power should not excuse themselves following this rules even its
emergency and is a matter of life and death? The government is complaining how people don’t
follow the protocol, but they don’t questions how politician go to beaches ,swimming with the
dolphins and police holding a party. I can conclude that the Politics is very stable in terms of
negativity and handling everything. That is why we as a citizen should choose and vote wisely.
We should be smart in choosing our leader. ”Hindi yung sumayaw lang ng budots boboto nyo na
agad.”
