Plate No. 3: Reverse Curve

1. Two parallel tangents 25m apart are to be connected by a reversed curve. The radius
of the first curve at the PC has a radius of 800m and the total length of the chord
from the PC to the PT is 300m. Stationing of the PC is 12+752.
a. Compute the central angle of each curve.
b. Find the radius of the curve passing thru PT.
c. Compute the stationing of PT.

2. Two parallel tangents have directions of due east and are 200m apart, are connected
by a reversed curve having equal radius of 800m. The PC of the curve is on the
upper tangent while the PT is at the lower tangent. If the horizontal distance
parallel to the tangent from the PC to the PT of the reversed curve is 800m.
a. Compute the distance of the intermediate tangent between the curves.
b. Compute the distance between the centers of the reversed curve.
c. Compute the stationing of PT of the stationing of the PC is 10+020.40

3. Given the figure 1, line AB=60 m, BC= CD= 95m. A reverse curve is to connect these
lines thus forming the centerline of the new curve.
a. Find the length of the common radius.
b. If the PC is at station 11+323, what is the stationing of PT.
c. Compute the area of the road (from A to PT) if the road width is 15 m.

4. Two parallel tangents are 200m apart. These lines will be connected by reversed
curves of two simple circular curves with radius 150m and 250m respectively.
a. Compute the central angle of each curve.
b. Find the distance between two vertices.
c. Compute the stationing of PT of PC is at sta. 12+330.

5. A reversed curve with diverging tangents is to be designed to connect three

traverse lines for a portion of the proposed highway. The lines A to B is 150
meters, B to C is 125 meters, and C to D is 290 meters. The azimuth of these lines
are Due East, 242 degrees, and 302 degrees respectively.
Type of pavement = Item 311 (Portland Cement)
Number of lanes = Two (2) lanes
Width of Pavement = 3 mtrs per lane
Thickness of Pavement = 20 cm.
Unit Cost = 500 / square meter
It is necessary that the PRC must be one fourth (1/4) the distance of B to C from
B.
a. Compute the radius of the first curve.
b. Compute the radius of the second curve.
c. Compute the cost of the concrete pavement along the curves from PC to PT
based on the cost index & specifications.
